Hello guys,

Some of you must remember me from my The 7th Guest 4 game demo a few months ago. I am the developer of this game called "The Secret Guest". Well let me tell you that the project has evolved into a fully-independent intellectual property, which now has a script in the works.

I couldn't think of a better group of people to share the plot with, so here it is !

"The Secret Guest"

His name was Martin Carnoval.

He was a clown at the local circus, and became famous for his marionettes, his puppets. He became... The puppet-master. Ventriloquist.

And the children became enamoured with his marionettes, which he started selling at the local fair. He opened up a shop in town. Charles Velmont grew wealthy selling his puppets. And some of the children, started dying. The people of the town began to accuse him of being too close to the children, of molesting a little girl . And some of the children, started dying.

People started hearing and seeing strange sounds during late hours of the night at the house, and legend now says the house is haunted, the old man and his puppets, still roaming the corridors.

... Now, some 40 years later, a (female?) detective comes into the town of Brooksville, where he is told there is a contest, a reward from the local town millionaire, Charles Velmont, for anyone who spends an entire night in the Carnoval Mansion, in order to prove the legend a farse...

What do you guys think of this story overall? Of course it's gonna be fully fleshed out soon, and told with great FMV sequences that create an incredibly moody ambiance/location...

Anyways i just wanted to know if you guys think the story is good , great, or it sucks lol ?

It sounds a bit like Shivers.  But even if it's not really, bring it on! Sounds good.  The screenshot is lovely too.

Anyways, yes, you are right about there being a contradiction in the storyline, it is a typo, I meant Martin Carnoval instead of Charles Velmont.

About gameplay, it will be similar to The 7th Guest but with some major advances (that was almost 20 years ago anyways) such as interactive environments, animated background environments, rain & thunder, fog effects, and more. (This is all currently already coded into the engine using .NET framework)

We're not trying to reinvent the wheel here, just trying to make a good-old, fun, horror adventure game. We're also trying to keep it simple and not too ambitious or we might run into "when it's done" problems and we definitely dont want that lol.

I'm still confused.
Viewed the video which I guess is a trailer?  Was the demo which you referred to a few months ago a playable one or was it the same or similar video or trailer.
If you have a playable demo is it possible to get a link to it since I would like to play it.   TIA.

I have only two bits of commentary to offer up:  

I would advise softening the corners on your graphics and adding texture. Give the house an age and character.

I am worried about how unoriginal it all seems -- dolls, bleeding eyes, thunder and lightning, etc.  Yes, there are conventions of the genre that must be adhered to, that's not what concerns me.  I'm concerned that you'll continue in that vein and create a derivative storyline.  Please please focus on story.  Story is what makes a good game great.  Plot, believable characters acting logically, and puzzles help buckle together the mystery. If you do that, bring on the dolls!
