Regarding the phone:

Ever notice how telemarketers seem to always be ready, willing and able to call you, but people who you are depending on to call you about something important, never do.

I hate when you call a business and ask for someone specific and the person who answers the phone says, "Just a minute" and what you get is the person's voice-mail.

I hate the fact that voice-mail has become an excuse to have other people contact you when it's convenient for them!

I hate the fact that when you call a business and need to talk to someone RIGHT NOW, you are told that the person is 'away from their desk' or is 'at lunch'. My guess is that the current recession is really due to the fact that everyone in business has been away from their desks and/or at lunch.

Finally, I hate the fact that email and voice-mail has become a way for people to avoid talking to each other.

My last govt job drove me up the wall.  The staff would be sitting at their desks and refuse to pick up their phones when it rang, letting the customer leave a voice mail message.  Sometimes they'd forget to switch voice mail on and the call would be diverted to my phone (a sort of standby switch) where I'd take the call, try and deal with it, take a message, promise them the officer would ring back, then I'd walk my piece of paper down to their desk and find them chatting, and taking things easy.  My message from Mr X or Mrs Y would then be dismissed as unimportant.

So much for public service.

I hate people who DON'T RAKE UP THEIR LEAVES and they are usually the ones that HAVE ALL THE MAPLE & OAK TREES leaving the rest of the neighboorhood to suffer.
