Knew there was something fishy-Limbo of the Lost
Jun 11th, 2008, 4:40pm

Got an email alert today from one of many sites sending me game news and just about fell out of my seat.

In case you don't remember, it involved some strange working of the Limbo of the Lost developers sending out mixed signals and appearing fishy. Well, looks like they were indeed fishy:

Interesting...this keeps getting deeper. Someone has now spotted Painkiller assets in there.

Look at the Limbo trailer here at around 2:36 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34863.html

and look at the Painkiller level here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJniAgD5wT0

EDIT:

There are now even more claims that assets have been ripped from Thief: Deadly Shadows and a shield "exactly the same as the "Wall of the Eyeless" shield in Diablo 2"

Looks like this entire game's locations and some other graphical assets have been ripped straight from other games.

I'm amazed the person or persons who did this believed people wouldn't notice.

A very thick plot indeed, Ivinia.  This explains the statement taken from Aya's review here at JA:
Quote:
All of the chapters though feel as though they have been created by different people.

It looks like they were.   Smiley

Someone is claiming the hand pointer/icon in the game is from Black & White 2.  It's all turned into a game in itself as people are identifying parts of the game from MANY different sources - mostly other games. The big game now is finding out where the main character came from or if they created him themselves.

I really can't image adults trying to pull something like this. Right now I have a mental picture in my head of a bunch of kids sitting around saying, "Hey, let's make a game."  There's tons of stuff out there we can rip. No one will notice. Tri-Synergy and G2 has to have a lot of egg on their faces for actually signing these guys up.  I wonder if they paid them advanced royalties?  According to GameSpot the publisher has not been able to contact them as they are supposedly on vacation.... I bet they are!

EDIT: Just did some searching on my own and found that the dialog on this trailer with the demon speaking:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34863.html

Is from the video game RUNE: "The dead do not welcome the presence of the living, warrior. You remind them of all they have lost."

Isn't this the same set of folks that was heaving a ton of **&^ at Inferno?

They likely were not concerned. By the time the rip off was discovered they got their money from G2 and TriSynergy and are long gone. Very likely set up shop elsewhere under a new name and are busily working on a sequel of a different name.

I came here and saw no thread for this and was going to start but saw this just in time....

This is just crazy.  Yea, it really does sound like something kids would do or someone learning how to make a game.

Here are some more screenshots:

Thief 3: http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/thief_deadly_shadows/92784
Diablo II (Wall of the Eyeless) http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/ushields.shtml
Limbo of the Lost: http://www.ag.ru/screenshots/limbo_of_the_lost/231765

Thanks to a poster on BluesNews for the previous links.

Someone also mentioned that maybe they could've used something like this: http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/3DRipperDX.htm

I think this is just crazy.   So what was the deal with Fable and Inferno?

Kinda makes you wonder if they ever left the pub, doesn't it?

Awesome find Marian!  Grin

Unless this is some major PR stunt, I don't see how the heck they can get out of this.  The only thing I can possibly think of is that maybe they had someone else supply those screens and the vocals, and the special effects in the trailers, and the...well, you get the idea. At this point it is a long shot, but you never know. They are quoted all over the place saying they did it all themselves. I can't see how they could possibly talk their way out of this one. Can it get any more bizarre?

Interviews with Steve Bovis
JustAdventure
Quandaryland

Following quote from JA interview:
Quote:
Tim Croucher  (UK) - Researcher and assistant vocalist, game designer/playtester.

I met Tim right at the beginning of the project, we were both adventure game fans and decided to make an adventure game of our own – Limbo of the Lost was born.

Laurence Francis (UK) – Puzzles, Lead vocalist and assistant game designer/Musician.

Laurence joined the team when we were starting the Amiga version and has been a strong member ever since.  Laurence is the voice of the main character – Benjamin Spooner Briggs as well as other characters in LIMBO.

Marko "Gravehill" Hautamäki (Germany) – Level-Atmosphere Musician.

I got to know Marko from a forum I was on and he was looking to work on a game project. I heard some of his work and was suitably impressed. To date he has done more than 13 musical pieces for the game. Marko is the newest team member.

Lisa Highsted (UK) – Contracts and Support

Lisa sorts out contract negotiations / publishers, she joined the team on the PC version of the game. She also play-tests and reviews content on a regular basis.

Heather Banks (UK) – Playtester &  Support

Heather helps out on playtesting the game, general development feedback and development support. She too joined the team on the PC version

Myself - Steve Bovis  (UK) -  Creative/Project Director

That then leaves me, my job is to put the game together and create all the visuals, coding, sounds, models, marketing and basically make the game flow and work.  As well as manage and try to motivate the team. A job that is hard enough at the best of times!

Hmmm, looks like it's all in Steve's lap since he is saying he did all of the visuals.  Funny how he seems to be at the center of the previous controversy on here and GameBoomers as well.  Smiley
