Area 50.5 - my first game
Aug 23rd, 2007, 6:45pm

I've always enjoyed 3rd-person adventure games with witty dialogue, well-thought-out humor, and hotspots which the protagonist gives his or her own opinion on (rather than looking at or manipulating them without a single word or reaction). I've also noticed that there aren't very many adventure games with an animal as the main character, so I decided to make my own game with all of these characteristics (or a fair approximation of them).

This is my first adventure game. It's very, very short (a lot of you experienced adventurers should be able to solve it in under 5 minutes), and it takes a while to load (though there is an option to download it on the left side of the screen), there are still a few minor bugs, and I never could decide exactly what genre I was aiming for. I just wanted to create an adventure game for people who play a lot of adventure games as well as people who have never played one before. There are also plenty of obscure injokes, some of them related to adventure games and adventure game creators.

Have fun!

I wasn't sure what to expect at first -- the introduction seemed to be setting a more serious tone than the game actually took. But once I adjusted to the switch, I enjoyed it. I particularly liked all the little in jokes.
Spoiler:
Any game that can reference Bela Fleck, Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, and take a jab at Puma Man  is alright by me! Loved the bit with the Myst book dropping in. Interesting twist with the ending too.

So all in all, a very nice little game.

I realized a bit too late that the intro might have been a bit too serious. This game suffers from some sort of fluctuating tone disorder.

Spoiler:
I've got to admit that I've never heard of Bela Fleck until you mentioned the name -- I had to look it up to find out why. "UFO TOFU" is a phrase that I first heard in Baby Gramps' palindrome song on the Dr. Demento Show and souldn't resist including in this game.

I use to play several flash online games, but Area 50.5 is very boring. Lots of legends. Is faster read an entire book. Grin And I absolutelly disliked the idea about a talking cougar.

It's so short and simple, I didn't think a walkthrough would be necessary. I'll put a complete walkthrough in this spoiler space, though:

Spoiler:
Look at the bulletin board six times.
Use the ladder.
Read Volume T of the EnPSYCHOlopedia.
Jump down from the bookcase.
Examine the globe.
Jump down from the bookcase.
Look under the desk chair.
Use the key on the lock.
Look at the panel.
Solve the puzzle by pressing the buttons in the correct sequence.
