building palaces and temples. It is now near the end of the reign of Amenhotep
III, and storm clouds are beginning to appear on the horizon as the priests
of Amon exhibit an ever-increasing desire to gain power, wealth, and influence
by interfering with affairs of state. It is these beginnings of disruption
and chaos and, particularly, the changing balance of influence between religion
and power that will form the foundation for the story of Egypt II. "- |
