ZeniMax Media Announces Successful Launch of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Perfect review scores and seven million copies hit retail shelves worldwide.

In news that might not totally suprise a lot of adventure fans, ZeniMax Media Inc. announced today that Bethesda Softworks' Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had a very successful launch. Shipping more than seven million units across the PC and Xbox 360/PS3 consoles and multiple perfect review scores, total global retail sales are expected to reach more than $450 million.

Launched on 11/11/11, with fans even lining up at doors at retail suppliers at midnight, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim enjoyed strong sales. More than 50% of launch units were sold within the first 48 hours, with Bethesda Softworks receiving more reorders from major retailers in North America, Europe and Australia. Steam also recorded some hits, with Skyrim setting the record of more than 280,000 concurrent players playing Skyrim, beating out other popular titles on the digital distributor service.
