Odyssey is an educational science-puzzle-adventure focused on scientific and methodical reasoning in astronomy and mechanics, from the ancient Greeks to Newton. It's a game that's constructed to appeal to both kids and adults alike.
You intercept a distress call from young teenager Kai Rao who, along with her family, has been trapped by ruthless sailors on a tropical archipelago called The Wretched Islands. Embark on an immersive and intellectual journey during which you must solve a variety of science-based puzzles in order to make you way across the islands and find the family.
Developer The Young Socratics has been assisted in the creation of the game by Eric Lindstrom (Tomb Raider: Underworld, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Legend, Solar Eclipse) on the narrative, and Jason Miller (Nintendo, LucasArts, Disney, Activision) on development.
Odyssey creators Vivek Kaul and Omkar Desphande: We wanted to stay on Early Access for long enough to be confident in the quality of Odyssey - to make sure that what we’d be putting out there was something we could be proud of, and that the community would enjoy to its fullest. Now, as we edge into April, we feel we’re almost there.
The game has seen many improvements during its time in Early Access. Also, the price is being lowered from $19.99 to $14.99.
The Young Socratics, concerning the price reduction: We’re aware that this might frustrate some people, who bought the game at $19.99 during Early Access. But while we believe Odyssey is a high-quality product with several hours of gameplay time, after careful deliberation we’ve decided the price may have been a little on the high side. We want to open the door to Odyssey for more people, which has been the main trigger for the decision. We hope those of you who bought the game at $19.99 will understand, but do feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
The first three Chapters of Odyssey will be released on Steam for Windows and Mac April 19th.
Note: Concerning the remaining chapters, the developer has stated: We actually wrote the first draft of the journal for a game at least twice as long as the one we released, but due to budget constraints, it was impossible to implement such a vast project, because of which we had to release the first 3 chapters as our 'first' game. So yes, this isn't the whole game at all (it's about 40% of what we had planned) but we had no option after putting in most of our savings into building what you got and exhausting it all. Depending on the response to these 3 chapters (as measured by revenues and/or funds), we will decide whether to continue making more chapters.
