Unfortunately, I don't believe there are any more Zork games planned in the near future and it's hard to be real optimistic about that changing.  When Zork Grand Inquisitor was released it was supposed to be the first in a new trilogy of Zork games... then Activision scrapped plans for the final 2 installments.  Too bad, because IMHO Zork Grand Inquisitor was one of the greatest adventure games ever made!  I really enjoyed Zork Nemesis too!

Colgan65, if you start a petition for Activision to make more Zork games - I'd happily sign it!

Activision, unfortunately, ascribes its discontinuation of the Zorks to its belief that "adventure game" = "zero profit." Many companies feel this way, unfortunately. It's good to see that LucasArts has rethought the issue and decided to bring us Sam and Max 2 and Full Throttle 2. I can't wait.

I would not bother with a petition, Activision do not listen. They closed down all their Interstate 76 servers, despite the fact that we were still playing literally hundreds of games a week. We have petitioned them & sent them many emails but they refuse to reset the servers.  :-/

I'm somehow conviced that if my company asked Activision for the rights to make another Zork game, they will request a hefty sum of money.
But we haven't asked them, so I can't 100% sure...

That is so frustrating.  "We won't do anything about it, but you can't either, sorry."  ARGH.  >

Maybe we should establish the fund, ask people for donating some money and buy the rights from activision and transfer them to public domain?

Public domain isn't necessarily a Good Thing either. Then any schmuck with some mackin' game design/programming skillz - or lack thereof - could create some rubbish and slap the Zork name on it for instant credibility and acceptance.  Oh, the horror. *shudder*  No.. the license needs to be transferred to the hands of a loving, knowledgeable, talented developer, who will do right by it.

And who is going to decide who is "schmuck" and who is "loving, knowledgeable, talented developer"?

I belive that everyone should have the right to prove one's talent and offer the best Zork games. Then players will decide which of those offers are the best.

If you haven't already, you could always go back and play the Zork text adventures.  Those are always a fun ride.
