Deleted UserWOW! How good is this film? It's mighty fine! I highly reccomend everyone to see it, as it's funny, intelligent, beautifully shot, has a rollicking good yarn and some of the best SFX I've seen in ages to boot, which actually propel the story along and don't make the film on their own.

Gore Verbinski - mighty fine director!

Oh, and anyone who disagrees has to have something immensely sad about them. I don't think I've heard a British cinema laugh so much WITH a blockbuster, cynical lot we are... the beginning is class and the introduction of Johnny Depp is fantastic. His character is one of the most drugg addled creations since he did Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas... and brilliant to boot.

Orlando Bloom? Doesn't really work for me as an action actor anyway, but he's good here and Keira Knightly has the right combination of sexiness and personality to make her one of the lads, despite the corset.

And the detail... the period detail is incredible. The sets are really finely created and the ships are amazing. One of the early fights in blacksmiths is just great. I've read in a couple of reviews that some don't think the action sequences are up to scratch... all I can say is these romans are crazy! It worked for me!

Both me and my girlfriend want to see it again... guess we'll save our money now for the DVD!

Deleted UserYippie! I'm glad it is a great movie after all! The release in my country is at the 28th of August and I'm trying to find when the sneak preview is so we could watch it more earlier.

I've read a review on this movie and they said that Depp is a great actor and not just a huge star because almost all of his movies are memorable. Meaning that he really concentrates his characters in his movies and achieved for not acting in a typical "Johnny Depp" character that some stars portray in every movie.

Deleted UserLike Jack Nicholson of late... save for, of course, About Schmidt which was a fantastic film.

BTW I also saw Punch Drunk Love recently. It was good, but far too pretentious. Kudos to Adam Sandler, although essentially as a piece of acting it wasn't a stretch for him. I get the feeling he'd be up to a fantastic non-comedic role one day - just something about him. Here's hopin'!

Pirates is a very fun movie.  Saw it a few weeks ago.  Pure entertainment.  Rush, Depp, all of them are very good, even the monkey

It just got okay reviews by some media.

I had a great time.

I hadn't heard of it but after reading Monkeybone's review I'll put it on the list.  I'm always interested in movies that make me laugh.

It's great as a blockbuster summer fun movie. I like Depp's role and Orlando Jones is fine.
Kiera Knightley is hot...and does a good job aside from that fact.

But the plot isn't too brilliant if you ask me. Like somebody else already figured, it's basically Monkey Island with some parts of pirates' tales and old legends. I can say the ending isn't much of a surprise but suits the movie.

I don't know if based on something but a few of the scenes and parts of the plot are taken right out of one of my favorite rides at Disneyland's Pirates of the Carribean.

Just a pure fun movie.  Nothing to think deeply about, just grab your popcorn and relax and enjoy the pure entertainment.

Sorry, closed and then remembered to answer last part of Anne's question.

From what I have heard, they are already working on the sequel.

That's Hollywood.  :
Pirates is a hit in the States and I'm sure it'll do good business elsewhere as well.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this film. Only two more days until it sails into theatres here. (about bloody time
)

For those who haven't seen it, the trailer can be found here:

I thought it was pretty good, but without Depp's character, it would have been very, very average.  He pretty much made the movie.

I like Depp's role and Orlando Jones is fine.

Orlando Jones is the dude from Mad TV who did 7up commercials.  Orlando Bloom is the guy in Pirates who is also in Lord of the Rings.

Deleted UserI used Olarlando Bloom's wallpaper for a couple of weeks and now it's Johnny Depp staring at me. Orlando Jones is a funny man.If both Orlandos' are standing side by side, you can strightly spot the difference
.

How can you concentrate having him staring at you?

Those eyes, cripes. I would be drooling all over my keyboard

For all of 2002 I had a Legolas screen saver and wallpaper on my computer.  In March of this year I changed it to a Willard theme.  I'm quite fond of the Lord of the Rings themes, but perhaps I will have to find one with Johnny Depp (in From Hell).....or hey!.....maybe even one with Colin Farrell wearing that hotsie-totsie Swat uniform!

Filled with with drops that you don't even wanna know.
Just kidding!!

Z-Girl, I think that's a good idea. As far as Colin is hot, I wouldn't have thought of having him as a wallpaper until you said it.
