@Z-Girl: Bubble Man is a fantastic name for a cat. Gotta remember that one.

Thank you for the cultural enlightenment Friday. How lucky there's always an expert on something around here.

Get out! Really?
And I thought I was being original (or semi-original) by thinking up that name! Some of you may remember back when I took an unofficial poll about my cat's potential name of "Batboy". 50% who answered said it reminded them of the kid that picks up the bats at a baseball game, and the other half said it was reminiscent of a son-of-Batman -type character, or the bat-kid mutant from the World Weekly News. Either of the latter two would have been fine, but seeing as how some folks thought of baseball, I had to change his name. It went from "Batboy" (which is actually really hard to say quickly...like when you're yelling it because the cat's got his face in your coffee creamer), but then it changed to "Bubble Boy", and then morphed into its finality of "Bubble Man".
I often like to choose humorous names for some of my pets. The two new kittens I adopted are named "Little Prince of Winter Throned" (for all of us Cradle fans), or "Winter" for short. Winter's sister is named "Jelly Cat". Sometimes I call her Jellybean or Jellybelly. My first cat's name is Feline. Short, sweet, and right to the point. A foster that I recently returned to the shelter I named Chocolate Chip.

My neighbour has two green tree frogs, one bi-colour rat, several (recently neutered) white mice (all related unfortunately, hence the operation), birds in a cage, two burmese cats, (named Mars and Aslan), another outside cat she fostered called Eve who is the bane of our existance, and Oscar, a small maltese dog of even smaller brain who is a noisy idiot. I'm not sure where she'll keep the pony which she's bound to get when her daughter tires of the existing menagerie, which is how she acquired each new one. Oh, forgot, they have fish in a bowl. Almost the complete food chain, really.

This is how Bubble Man looks in MM2
If I had cat's I'd name them "eath", "Pestilence", "War", "Famine" and "Michal".

And the sound when you enter a level and the boss is shown...da-dap-da-da-daaaa da-dap-da-da-daaaa...da-dap-dap da-dap-dap...dap-dap-da-da-da-daaaaaaaa...I love it...

Ah, the memories. One of my favorite series for the NES. The ability to use your enemies weapons against them was novel and pretty cool as well. Getting a new weapon and testing out its strength and which bosses were vulnerable to it was a large part of the fun too. And you're definitely right about the challenging part -- the first three games were fairly easy compared to the later ones. One of these days I'll have to dig up some roms and play the whole series through, I missed some of the later ones.
