What word looks the same upside down and backwards? I am taken from a mine, and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost everybody.
What goes round the house and in the house but never touches the house?
There were five men going to church and it started to rain. The four that ran got wet and the one that stood still stayed dry. How can this be?
Who spends the day at the window, goes to the table for meals and hides at night?
Poke your fingers in my eyes and I will open wide my jaws. Linen cloth, quills, or paper, my greedy lust devours them all.

It is something that you will only ever fill with your bare hands.

What word looks the same upside down and backwards? "I", "ID", "EED"? Not sure what exactly 'upside down' and 'backwards' means here.
What goes round the house and in the house but never touches the house? I'm sure this one is real easy. I'm almost certain I've heard this one before. And I still can't figure it out
There were five men going to church and it started to rain. The four that ran got wet and the one that stood still stayed dry. How can this be? Let's see... he turned on bullet time and dodged the raindrops? Or had an umbrella?

Oh no, it's far simpler than that. Just travel to Benin, defeat a few old mummies, have someone donate their heart and you're all set!
But I did when I was in Benin last weekend - what a coincidence!
Jessica: #1 SOS? #2 the wall? Or a hole - you're fond of those! #3 He had a raincoat? He was in a car? #4 the sun? #5 fire?

Sure! It just arrived in the mail. Next time you're in Denmark or Rittersburg(I travel a lot between those places now) just come by! Just let me know beforehand so I can disarm the demon-deathtraps I've set up.

What goes round the house and in the house but never touches the house? I know this one: sunshine I learnt it in kindergarden
There were five men going to church and it started to rain. The four that ran got wet and the one that stood still stayed dry. How can this be? Ok, I'm just guessing now: one of them is dead, and the others are carrying his coffin, therefore the dead guy remains dry while the others get all wet? :-/ Am I being too morbid?

What is that which goes with a carriage, comes with a carriage, is of no use to a carriage, and yet the carriage cannot go without it?
What fastens two people yet touches only one?
What holds water yet is full of holes?
When one does not know what it is, then it is something; but when one knows what it is, then it is nothing.

1. He gets short when he gets old. He goes out then it gets cold.
2. Today he is there to trip you up, And he will torture you tomorrow. Yet he is also there to ease the pain, When you are lost in grief and sorrow.
3. A barrel of rainwater weighs twenty pounds. What must you add to make it weigh fifteen?
4. We love it more than life. We fear it more than death. The wealthy want for it. The poor have it in plenty.
5. Passed from father to son, And shared between brothers. Its importance is unquestioned, Though it is used more by others.
