The home forum list shows a newish (Feb 11) topic from Caroline, but I can't access it. Since it's a slow morning at the office, (and a slow few months at this forum), I thought I'd start a new thread .

Most of us are registered at various places on the net. That means having usernames. Is there any rhyme or reason to your choice for a username? Are you faithfull to one or a few? Do you like to switch it up regularly?

I use  colpet for games forums and elvet for book related sites.

Happy Valentines Day to those who celebrate.

i use markornikov quite frequently these days, JA was in fact the first website where i used this nick.

I also use it on steam, lastFM, etc. It's also a nick that no one else seems to use. So if a website tells me that there already is a member called markornikov, i know for certain i've registered before.

The name originates from the day I registered here: i was bored while studying chemistry, discovered this wonderful website and decided to register. Upon asking me for a nick, i looked at the page i left studying and saw the name markornikov (which is typo, but the name stuck ever since)

Other nicks i used to have are Pooky (garfields teddy) and Knibbel.

I call myself either Fnord, A_Fnord or AFnord (depending on availability) on all forums, a name that I decided to take after reading The Illuminatus Trilogy, when I realized that Fnord not only sounded funny, but also consists of the first letter from my first name, the first three letters from my first surname and the first letter from my second surname.

I always use Lady Kestrel.  I'm a bird watcher, and the little American kestrel is one of my favorite birds of prey.  Of course, it's not yellow, but, like Woodstock, it can be rather feisty when roused up.

I've been Andromus (or something as close as possible) nearly everywhere I go online for a bit over a decade by now. It started with my joining an online trivia game on what was then the Sci-fi Channel website. I wanted a user name with a science fiction sound to it, but didn't want anything too common or derivative. After a little thought, I combined part of my first and last name with a slight tweak, and came up with "Andromus". I only found out much later that I had unknowingly come up with the same name as a character from the apparently terrible sci-fi series Galactica 1980. Ack! Well, by that time I had become attached to the name, and I've stuck with it ever since.

Tincup. Ever since I picked it out of the blue as a driver name in TOCA Championship Racing years ago. Sometimes I need to add a number since the moniker has adherents out there - a golf term I've heard. I relate to the "shaking the cup" image since it's the best any of us really can do in the end... give an alm, take an alm..

I'm just highly unimaginative.

And I remember Caroline when she was The Floozie. She got in trouble with that moniker, haha.

I've found it necessary at some gaming sites to either be gender incognito, or to pretend that I am a male (sad, isn't it?) - hence my 'genderless' aliases.  Once i had Traveller, i thought it would be a good idea to try and hang on to it for the sake of recognition on other sites, but sadly, it seems to be a rather popular name, and so i have quite few doppelgangers floating around.

My most used other aliases are Moondancer, Balmoran and Almalexia.  Anyone who has played Morrowind will know where the last 2 come from.
