Apart from the general need for a savegame on occasion, there are some specific reasons why a save may be needed sometimes in Yoomurjack's Ring" {A} There are some very minor small bugs, quirks or other anomalies in the gameplay. {B} There are some situations where there is no hint as to where is the next essential location. There are some 24 different locations and very many contain several sub-locations. Hence it can take a VERY long time and be extremely annoying & frustrating to be held up for ages and ages just trying different locations until you find the essential 'right' one! {C} ALL speech (and many textual matters) are exclusively in the Hungarian language. There are a large number of dialogs and many are VERY long. Hence full English subtitles have had to be added. Unfortunately, Hungarian is a fast spoken language and therefore these English subtitles flash by EXTREMELY quickly, and so anybody who is not a really faultless speed reader in fluent English or who has any vision shortcomings is likely to miss some vital hints to continued progress! Despite all the above seeming criticism, it must be stressed that "Yoomurjack's Ring" is a very good game

I had some troubles with it and had to consult the only walkthrough I could find several times. My troubles were mainly "Where to go next" since there are a LOT of locations and sub-locations and sometimes I didn't seem to have a clue as to where the next ESSENTIAL location had to be !!! This was the main reason why I compounded the large number of saves. Overall, there was a lot of good in the game, but at the same time, some problems!

I love that it's in Hungarian. It adds so much to the experience of being in Eger and it's great that Private Moon Studios understand this. More games should use subtitles. If more developers were happy to add subtitles to non-English games rather than converting the dialogues from the native language, we would not only have quicker and cheaper releases, but also a much more diverse and unique body of games from a variety of languages. |

Often, the different various UKL/USA accents in say an Italian or Scandinavian developed game is quite off-putting and greatly detracts from their authenticity. *But* whilst saving a lot of money for translators & English speaking voice actors, much more attention (and some cash) should be invested in **first class** subtitles which can be read fully & with great ease by EVERYBODY !

Mr Innocent.Journeyman![]() ![]() Posts : 1316 Joined: 15 JAN 2008 Location: GR Status : Offline | I've played Yoomurjak's Ring, and I think it's a very good adventure, with a few minor faults that keep it from greatness.
1. The coincidences that on occassion are used to drive the plot are a bit far-fetched. Ok, so just the right man happens to overhear Jonathan's conversation to get the whole game really started, I could accept that. But on Day 3, when Jon and Juli are both truly stuck with no clue as to how to proceed, Istvan happens to put up a new painting on the hotel with just the right clue in it... Not exactly subtle storytelling.
2. I like the map, but I'd rather it actually used the name of locations instead of a representative drawing. As the game opens up and more and more locations become available, it can get confusing.
3. One particular puzzle has way too many required actions and clues to be viewed before it allows you to input the solution you may well have figured out without all of them.
The Hungarian language and english subtitles did not bother me at all, after all english is not my native language either and I use english subtitles for most of the movies and TV series I watch. The game does provide help for those that can't easily follow them.
Clicking on the N brings up your notebook, with detailed recordings of every single line of dialogue you've had up to that point, sorted by in-game date. Not ideal perhaps, but anyone that has trouble following the pace of the subtitles can look them up afterwards at their leisure. Last edited by Mr Innocent. : 24 DEC 2012 10:35am |

However I still maintain that reading and absorbing all the very many English texts must be EXTREMNELY difficult or even impossible for quite a large umber of people – both because the length of many of the texts &/or due to some weakening of youthful vision. !!! BTW --- You are not Scandinavian are you I have a LOT to do with Sweden !

Len GreenJourneyman![]() Posts : 828 Joined: 31 JAN 2012 Location: IL Status : Offline | Carol Reed #9 should be released in less than 2 months from now and I Skype Mikael Nyqvist in Sweden in the course of alpha & beta testing (and being the games' series 'permanent' "Creative Consultant". He told me that there is a similar sort of problem in Sweden but much more widespread since it affects all foreign TV there. But it is caused by a diametrically opposite reason ! He said that Swedish translations are MUCCH LONGER than their original English originals – I think this is because Swedish words are generally MUCH longer than their English originals. Hence LITYERAL translated Swedish subtitles would be too lengthy for people to read before the next sentences is already displayed. The end result would be identical to that of "Yoomurjak" although due to a different cause ! Hence, according to Mikael, the subtitles are *NOT* literal translations but edited précis's of the texts. IMHO, this would solve the same problem in the Hungarian game. It might involve additional work (and outlay) but would solve what I personally (and maybe others ??) consider a serious shortcoming !!! ----------------------------------------------------
