After the devastation caused by the hurricane, the same area is now covered with substantial snow making life for many survivors even more difficult and miserable.  The cold spell makes matters even worse !

One of my granddaughters together with her 4 year old daughter live in New Jersey and were very lucky since their apartment is a few floors up and they suffered no direct damage !

They also had a power cut for 3 or 4 days but nothing approaching the 8 or 9 days suffered by some members above – and I think that some folk are STILL without power in this late autumn early winter climate.
No'a Green (a working gal) had to trash a good deal of her frozen food and lost some cash – and our great grand daughter could not attend her kindergarten for a few days !!
But compared to others she got off real lightly and took it all in her stride & certainly didn't complain !!
I feel so sorry for all that vast number of folk seriously involved !

We are so spoiled !!!
Sure we have power cuts from time to time  - not too many and less as the years roll by.
It is annoying and frustrating since when it DOES happen there is generally no winning ad we are caught unprepared & almost literally with our pants down

But In the 63 years we have lived here I don't remember being without electricity for more than a few hours – not even during the all too frequent wars here !!!
P.S.
When my wife & I arrived in Israel in 1949 (a year after Israel was created) we came as pioneers and lived on a kibbutz.  It was in the North of Israel, north of Tiberius (the Sea of Galilee) and north of the Huleh swamp, then the breeding ground of millions of mosquitoes and the source of much fatal malaria, Our home for over 6 months was a TENT on the Western bank of the river Jordan just a hundred or so metres from the then dangerous Jordanian border and a few kilometers South of the Syrian border !!!

Now the Huleh valley is the hottest area in Northern & Central Israel.
But just that year it was the coldest EVER on record an snow had NEVER  EVER been experienced there !
But just that winter, our tent was covered by about 7 cms (3 inches) of snow for several weeks !!!

Actually it proved to me PRACTICALLY & PERSONALLY for the first time in my life what I later taught about conductors & insulators i.e. that snow (and ice) are substantial insulators and we were actually quite warm inside (like Eskimos in their igloos).
No electricity there in any case so we had no fears of any power outage !!!

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour:-
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.
