Last week, I mentioned in this thread that I felt Ragnar Tørnquist is still heavily involved in The Secret World, and that the sequel to Dreamfall had likely fallen by the wayside (no pun intended).

I've just posted a press release that, in part, says the following:

Funcom is excited to announce that Joel Bylos has taken the new position as Game Director on ‘The Secret World’, the company’s recently launched massively multiplayer online game (MMO). Mr. Bylos will work together with Creative Director Ragnar Tørnquist on expanding and enhancing the game through quality post-launch content. The team has already launched two major content updates in just over two months following launch, and focus going forward will be to expand the storyline, introduce entire new areas such as the upcoming New York raid, and much more.

Ragnar Tørnquist will continue in his role as Creative Director with even more focus on the overall setting and story for the game.

“Joel and I have worked together for many years, and I cannot think of anyone more suited to maintain the vision and lead the game going forward than him,” says Ragnar Tørnquist, Creative Director on ‘The Secret World’. “I look forward to continue working with Joel on bringing the game forward through many, exciting post-launch updates, and I especially look forward to spending more time expanding on what I truly enjoy the most about ‘The Secret World’: the story, characters and the setting itself.”

And there you have it.

I personally have a lot of emotional investment in the The Longest Journey and Dream Fall game/story.

Ragnar left me/us with a cliff hanger. (One girl in a coma, and the other a spear in her body.)

It would be, at least, decent of him to at tell us how the series ends if he does not intend to make another game.

Oh no...

At least release something, a book, a script, comic.. whatever! But forgetting about this game in name of MMOs that take years and years to develop and publish.. I seriously don't understand. But it's a matter of priorities ($$) I guess...

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

He has said there will be more, that is the best i can do, he stopped his blog a while ago but before he did, he promised to do more of the story,

Secret World will be, i fear, a flop. It is yet another conspiracy riddled remake of so many other similar trite tales, with modern graphics and social networking thrown in...and i just dont see it being the Next Great Thing. Also the creepy and horror side of it just does not appeal to me and i fear to many others who dont like to be dragged into yucky stuff to get thru a story.

TLJ and Dreamfall has some of all of that but it was a really well done story with stunning graphics and worked well. I do hope he keeps his promise. Just dont know if he will for he is, like many inthe game world, fairly young and quite immature in some ways, and just probably does not think his word means much when it comes to keeping promises and trust with fans. We will see. But i wont be too surprised if nothing ever happens.  I do hope so tho.

Ragnar starting on the next TLJ , picks up where Dreamfall left off. Norwegian film-institute is helping with the funding.

Jeg vil tro det når jeg ser den.

Thanks for the great news, Stiler! For those who don't speak Norwegian, here's a translation of the text by one of those amusing online translators (Funcom's focus is on online betting??):

Jobs still in Funcom

Chapters to be produced by Tørnquists new game company Red Thread Games. According to Funcom's communications manager Erling Ellingsen, however this does not mean that the veteran designer finishes with neither The Secret World or the company.

— Ragnar jobs still in Funcom and continues as Creative Director on The Secret World, but he also wanted to continue with Dreamfall after which there is a lot of players out there who have asked for the continuation of The Longest Journey-the story, telling the Funcom's communications manager Erling Ellingsen to the Gamer.

– As Funcom's focus is on online betting, we arrived at a solution where Ragnar has started a new company that licenses the rights to create new experiences in The Longest Journey universe.

Dreamfall: the longest journey was produced by Funcom with Tørnquist behind the helm, and was a sequel to the critically acclaimed adventure game the longest journey from 1999.

Dreamfall Chapters is going according to plan for PC and Mac.

Edit: Concidentally, I've just received and posted a press release about the planned sequel.

Ragner promised me several years ago that he would do more of the story and he has come thru

i am very glad to see this.

Best game news of the decade!

and that was a smart move, to set up his own shop as Funcom has pushed Online stuff for years and they are welcome to it. We want more Dreamfall, Zoe, April...and of course Crow.

so it is going to be time to replay both TLJ and Dreamfall again this winter to get ready.

I expect they will release the new content in chapters ..tho maybe they will do an entire game....Ragnar was concerned last time as the disk version was pirated so badly that they swore to never do another physical box set again and planned to download only..

we will see but i am excited very much about this. !!!
