Hope you can straighten it out.

Thanks for the link. Yes, it does clear up some of the issues. I've done a disk check (no faults found), and a RAM test (no faults fund here either), so the problem does seem to be connected with when my computer tries to use the graphics card (issues with the VRAM, most likely).
It was only a matter of time before the graphics card would give up. When a condensor on my old graphics card blew, I was given an old graphics card with a wonky fan, and I would not be surprised if it overheated and ruined something. Oh well, I'm currently on the lookout for a replacement, and I think I've found one (1½h left on ebay, and not a single bid, it looks promising).

I knew my old notebook was on its last legs when it periodically came up with the message "No Operating System Found" on startup. I didn't try to diagnose the problem as it was all the excuse I needed to replace it with a better one.

-Well, listen to my story, a story I will tell, of an airborne sapper, who would go through hell, His home was FT. Leonard Wood, the land that God forgot, the mud was 18inches deep, and the sun was blazing hot.
