I'm hitting the wall at only 3%.  Something about cyclic redundancy check.  I've cleaned the disc, I've got plenty of space.  I'm on XP.  Please someone tell me how to solve this, I've decided that some pretty snow is just what I need to balance this hot weather.

CRC errors on an optical device are generally trouble - it's possible the read alignment is out of specs or the disc itself is marginal. What you might try is cleaning the drive itself using one of those CD/DVD cleaner discs. Short of that there may also be a firmware update for the device, but you'll need to locate the Hardware ID string to check it.

You can locate the string in Device Manager. Expand DVD/CD ROM drives, and right click your device. Peruse to Properties and press the Details tab (select Hardware ID from the drop down box).  You'll find the firmware version at the end of the string.

Here's one of mine: (5L08 is the firmware version)

Thanks Inland.  You know everything there is to know about computers, it seems.  However, I'm not that handy at fixing things so I took the coward's way out and bought the download for a fiver from gog.  It's playing perfectly and I'm just amazed at how many times she had to walk back and forth, back and forth..... And those inside jacket pockets of hers are stitched out of Tardis material - much bigger on the inside...

Now I just have to figure out how to run both wmp and iTunes on my computer, how to actually use iTunes and how to get wmp to stop 'encountering problems' it needs to shut down over....

iTunes - Now there's a piece of software I just can't stand (it's so... apple). Kate just never seemed to stop going back and forth but the game was so nice to look at, I just ignored it. I'm going to have to reload it for a replay one of these days.

I've just about thrown in the towel with iTunes and have uninstalled it.  Unfortunately windows media player is stuffed as well.  I've tried the microsoft fix it centre as well.   Can I uninstall wmp and have Creative media player handle everything?  I have a nice Zen mp3 player and I'm sure once I can un-screw the mess that is wmp and release all my music files I'll learn how to use the creative interface and have someging that works at last. 

Any advice whatsoever will be appreciated.

Depending on your intended usage, you could look at Winamp (which is the media player that I usually rely on), or, if that lacks file formats that you use, perhaps VLC Media Player.

What do you mean by your mention of having Windows Media Player "release" all of your music files?  Are they DRM-protected? :/

(For the record, I don't think that I use Windows Media Player or iTunes at all on my own computers, save perhaps before I get around to installing Winamp or should I find a file format not handled by Winamp or another player.)

did you ever get that problem with installing Syberia solved? that cycle reducnancy check problem usualy means the disk it self is borked. Sorry to say. You will probably have to buy a new game disk. When that happens something has messed up the disk itself and it is 90 percent of the time unrecoverable. At least at any affordable price.

Your DVD drive itself may also have problems, and need replacing, they are very cheap these days.

About your other problems, you are having trouble running a media player?   for movies and such, i use VLC the best out there

I abandoned i tunes years ago, it is too complex and proprietary. There are other media players that are free that play almost all formats and work well. But VLC should run just about anything and it is very easy to use and FREE and well supported by the makers.

If you try it out be sure to use an authentic VLC download link or some other jerks try to offer links to down load it and then try to either throw ads at you or add tool bars and other junk..here is the offical download for VLC
