Did King Art have a guitar hero refugee on staff that they had to put to work? Totally ruined this game. At least they could have provided an "opt-out" for this thing.
Maybe I'll get one of my young nieces or nephews to eventually get me through this. In the meantime, I'll play Black Mirror 3. And King Art lost a customer.
Aah! - are you talking about the Rain dance? - if so, apparently after 7 attempts it gets very forgiving!

I havent played an RPG in years and am itching to get back into it.

Congrats, Helen! I hope you enjoy it.
It will be nice if you update us on your thoughts and progress in the Oblivion thread we have running in the "other games" section. I think the most current one is this one: http://www.justadventure.com/forums/posts.asp?t=21525

I hope you enjoy it walsh - I thought it was a great game but quite challenging! I'm not aware of an English language version except for one voiced in Hungarian with english subtitles - I got used to it! I wish more non-english speaking developers would release games like that rather than not at all!

Helen, do let us know if you need any help with Oblvoin, the vanilla NPCs are quite ugly but the world is amazing...and we can help you with some mods and fixes if you are interested. I advise you to go slow on the Main quest, once you get done with the Priory, take time to explore the main cities and do at least the series of Mage Guild quests as it gives you access to a large and important sector of the Imperial City. Otherwise, enjoy, it is one of the most wonderful games yet made for any genre...and frankly I believe it will outlast Skyrim.

(I did play LA Noire in the meantime but I don't think that counts as an adventure game)
I don't know if it is just me... but lately nothing has come out that has spurred my interest. I'm still waiting for games like Memento Mori 2 and the next Sherlock Holmes but excluding those, there's nothing exciting coming out :/
Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)
Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Thanks Cris and I absolutely will cry for help when needed and Im sure that will happen. I have barely just started and really want to play but with the holidays upon us Im just really busy, with baking and all that good stuff. I did notice I have a hard time picking stuff up and am wondering if I need a patch. I just havent done that much research on the game just yet but cant wait for those cold hibernating nights when I can stay up half the night playing.

To pick things up, if they are too heavy you will be over encumbered. Your stremgth increases as you advance thru levels, as do your other skills. Otherwise, if you just want to pick something up to move it around on the screen in the game world, you click on the object while holidng down the "z" key and a little grabby hand icon will appear and you can move things around with real physics, ie things will drop to the ground or a table when you let go, and you can balance or arrange a book or a vase. But be careful if you so that or inadvertently click on something with your cursor that you do not own, like a mug on a table in a tavern...if there is a guard about, you will be arrested and taken to prisoin or have to pay a fine
otherwise it should work to just click on something and have it appear in your inventory. To get rid of something in your inventory, open your inventory and find the object on the list, each category of thing, armour, weapons, books, clothes, spells, ingredients, food items, etc will be in a seperate section, highligh it on the screen and then hold down the Shift key and it will drop to the ground. You can store things in chests or just anywhere at all in a house you own, or in public spaces, but be careful as chests in inn rooms and other places may be public and things will disapear and you will lose that item.
Houses you buy will be safe for storage.
I understand re the holidays, no rush, just keep in touch when and if you need a hand.

Status : Offline | @ Helen: I would just like to mention that in Oblivion, picking an item up would involve pressing the SPACE bar. A little hand will appear if you can pick it up. Opening and closing doors will also require the Space bar. To have a look at your inventory, stats and log, you'll need to press the TAB key.
We should really take this to Oblivion's own thread though... not just because it's OT in this thread, but also for Helen's own benefit, if she wants to perhaps refer to the info at a later date, it will be sitting there in the Oblivion thread - easy to find. Soon it's going to become buried in this thread, and you'll have a heck of a time trying to find it again.
If you click on the link, you'll find the Oblivion thread here: ---> OBLIVION THREAD
Hey, Loobiloo and Inesrocks! Nice to see you guys around again.
I think I'm rather going to play Drawn 3 than Darkstar...

Drawn 3 is shorter than the other games, even with the bonus chapter. It's still beautiful and fun, although easier than the other two.

Drawn 3 is rather short, so i think an extra chapter won't add a lot of content, 10$ is quite a lot for just a few extra minutes of gameplay

Ugh, I know what you mean.. $10 is a lot extra... it would have been an easier decision if it was only $4 or 5, (or even $2 or 3 ) ..but $10 for a chapter? Boo.
@ Helen: if the hand doesn't show up then it probably means that you need to shift your position a bit. You'll only be able to pick it up if the hand shows, and the hand will only show if you "focus" on the object from the correct distance and/or angle. Don't worry, you'll soon get the 'feel' for it.

LA Noire is not an open world like GTA. Its storyline is very linear, aside from some minor side quests that don't affect the story (only serves to progress the character in terms of rankings), you have to follow the route that is traced for you. For instance, although you can roam around as much as you can in the city, you can't visit restaurants, or go to your house, etc... there's not much freedom in the gameworld. It basically forces you to keep going with the main quests. Also, the game is quite short, there are not many missions, although each one is quite compelling with a differerent story and characters. There's one point where you get to play with another character as the climax in the ends gets higher, and it is quite thrilling to be figuring out how the main character's story develops.
There's lots of action, so I wouldn't really call this an adventure game. Almost every mission requires you to shoot someone, or do some chasings (either by car or running) which after a while start to get a bit boring. But the world is really detailed, every corner of the city has been well-thought, it really does resemble LA in the 40s. Its quite amusing to see all the nice decor inside the houses, and the costumes as well.
Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

I'll try it out one day though, when the price drops

Actualy in Mafia you CAN go into restaurants, and your house, you can even change clothes....and the detail is simply astounding, but the fighitng as you say in LA noire gets boring and i am not much interested in that....but i guess that is the price we pay to advance the story.
I may still check out LA N, as i love period settings. thanks for the info.

and you get to see the Maestro at home working on his compositions....and we can even send him to the pianoforte to play a bit for us..

This wonderful game by Microapplications of France is in French sadly no translated version yet, it was released prior to the econmic melt down, they did record full english text for it they told me in e mails back then but with the world the way it is, i doubt we shall see it...so you will need to speak french or be good at guessing
