EDIT: Wait, that's the 1990/1991 remake, so I guess that would be the VGA. Almost full marks then.
EDIT 2. Stop editing your post, JKing, I can't keep up! Yes, if it looks too much like EGA, it would be the VGA running in EGA mode, I guess, since the VGA edition allowed you to upgrade to EGA, and I'm not sure if the shot is in VGA or EGA mode. Anyway, final answer is that it's the 1990/91 remake of the game. ..and you're right. By comparison, it would seem to be running in EGA mode in my shot of it.

SQ is a fun series...esp 5 and 6
The original Space Quest was issued in October of 1986, and sold close to 200,000 copies and as you note was rel released in 1991. Even the re release is a bit too dated for me, but it is fun to see it....love the oldies.
