I can turn off all the User options that irritate me right now, but I'm not. Frankly, I have yet to find any other fault or anything else I need to second-guess.
I am willing to accept Win7 and move on.....and figure out other solutions for old games that won't play. For me, these games don't play for a reason: because they should not be played.
Younger folks may want to see what came before their experience. I love that. But I am old, and in my time left I only want to move forward....and forward (or parallel) in a way that distracts me from reality, whether it be to the future, or fantasy, or other-world experiences.
Then I have choices, which are up to me, like no horror games.

This is a sore point for me, so I guess I should actually not respond in the first place; I literally have shelves full of games that I can't play anymore, some which I've never had a chance to play at all, like Age of Pirates, Call of Jaurez, some not even with a "crack" (I don't like getting these "cracks" in the first place, because you never know how you are exposing yourself to viruses through the sites that carry them, or the cracks themselves).. my beloved Heroes of Annihilated Empires sadly falls into the latter category, and since I'd only played skirmishes and a small bit of the campaign before, I had really still been looking forward to finish up the campaign.
There's a lot of other pre-2011 games that I really enjoyed playing too, that I was wanting to finish or even replay. If they were really ancient, I could have relied on GOG, but the problem with most of the games are that they're only a year or 2 old but protected by some 7 incompatible DRM .
...but I know ne'er the twain shall meet, not in this thread, and possibly not on this site either, so I'll just shut up and make my own plans to continue playing the games I love.
I can't see why I "shouldn't be playing" certain games just because the publishers decided to slap some idiotic DRM onto them, and then MS dedcided not to care that I can't use half of my software anymore either.
...and I deeply resent that MS is deciding for me which games I "shouldn't" be playing anymore. All right, I think I'm going to avoid this thread again like I originally did, and know we know why I should.

My point is a selfish one. For instance, I used never "waste" an author's hard work by not finishing a novel I purchased. Now, if I don't like the book, I put down right away and move on. I also used to re-read a number of books, now I seek fresh literature.
Anyway, I've always believed in ye olde saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way." If you want to play all those games on your shelf, you can certainly find a way to do so. Finding the time, well, that's something else again.

Status : Offline | Just an update...Since I turned off the ridiculous user security layer, I am loving Windows 7. It now feels like XP, but slicker and better. Very happy I upgraded it.
Now I need to focus the final upgrade frontier....my CPU.

Thanks, Inland. I finally got it working again! [smiley=clap.gif] Part of the problem (in addition to what you helped solve) was that it was missing some library pieces, but I got it sorted. I just need to turn the message off that still keeps insisting that it is incompatible. : Thanks!
