I am completely stuck on #42, where you get 8 discs (4 shields and 4 stars).
And it appears that they have to go back where you got them from in some different order the diary says: "Let the stars protect us and out shields shine in the heavens"

I have tried a bunch of different simple orders but the problem seems to be that there is no indication that I can find of where the heavens are in relationship to the the eight slots or where protecting us would be either.

Well that is not really true, half of the slots are arrayed around a star (potentially indicating heaven) and the other half around a shield (which could stand for protection). But I have tried arranging them this (the reverse, and any other potential variant) way and nothing.
