Out of the ones I'd tried, I'd recommend Smantha Swift (fun, and something a little bit different, so I should really get tips from Jenny as to which of the later ones are even more interactive)

The Witch's Prison had a single hidden object search in the whole game. The bulk of it was a puzzle/adventure game with puzzles of varying difficulty.

Ooh, thanks for that suggestion, Jenny! Although the game definitely started off on "casual" difficulty, by the time you get to the graveyard, it notches up to easily match adventure game difficulty.  Quite interesting puzzles too.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I'm still in the graveyard and definitely enjoying this game by now.

Interesting to note, that it's actually more of an adventure than 3 Cards to Midnight was, and the latter got so much attention, when in actual fact, 3 Cards did turn out to be a HOG...

I actually like HOGs in that they offer a short diversion when I need one and don't have a lot of time.

However, I do suggest avoiding HOGs made by HdO (a subsidiary of Anuman, the company that took over Microids). I think their games are dreadful.

I'm playing The Witches Prison now. It's a really good puzzle game. Thanks for the recommendation, Jenny100.

Glad you're enjoying it, Colpet.  It really is more of a puzzle game than a HOG, isn't it?

We should really try to keep that "puzzle-game" thead of mine updated, I enjoy these puzzle games too.

You're welcome, Colpet.
I just wish companies like Big Fish would call puzzle games puzzle games, and not call puzzle games something else while they call something else puzzle games.

Once a month or so,, Adventure Gamers reviews the latest Casual games. I use their comments to demo games that appear to have good puzzles. Here's the link to the current reviews.

I tried Grim Tales The Bride and will likely get it with my next credit.

Thanks for the link & info, Colpet!  Hey, I was looking at that exact same game but got put off by descriptions that it is a HOG.  It will be appreciated if you let us know how the game turns out to be.

I'm playing Urban Legends The Maze. This was a game I beta'd and really liked it. Lots of puzzles, and places to check out. I like the 'fantasy' environments.

I love HOG's(hidden object games)! Especially the Dream Day Wedding series, Mystery Case Files series,Hidden Expedition series. HOGs are great casual games and now most of them weave in a real plot line to make them more interesting.

hi all
i do need to agree with what i've read here. i just purchased three new games, art of murder etc that have always been my favorites because you have to think and solve problems for the character. i really don't think looking through a pile of garbage( which aften includes a pizza (really?)),is fasinating.
anyway, these three games turned out to be the seach and find games... i cannot even begin to express how dissapointed i am. there was ABSOLUTLY no indication, that the game fomat had been changed from serious to absurd.
thanks for allowing me to vent a little bit.

There is one HOG which I seriously love.  I have to pace myself not to keep playing so often that it gets old.  And that is Mystery in London.

The creator (Big Fish Games.  No, really.  They directly commissioned this.  No other credits.) went around to many of the famous spots in London with a panoramic camera.  So every scene is 360 degrees of the shop, church, park, etc.  Everything photographed and fairly reasonable.  (I especially enjoyed the cigar store where I tried to see how many brands I could identify.)

There is a cheesy story between scenes about solving the Jack the Ripper mystery, but it doesn't get in the way. (I still say Leather Apron did it.)

The end result is a very nice tour of London without a lot of repetition.

Other than that, Escape Rosecliff Island is a pleasant break from Solitaire, but not much more.  Most HOGs have such ridiculous stories that I can't get through them.
