Of course, there might be recordings that you may download for free. Look around and you might be able to find some.

Status : Offline | Hell, I'm gonna download it. They didn't pay Beethoven in order to play it themselves in the first place, now did they? And there is a bunch of different recordings, so, no matter what I do, I'm gonna hurt someone, so why not be fair and hurt everybody? Seriously though, I can't just go and ask for Beethoven's greatest hits, what will the Town folk say? I'm only 18. I should be listening to Eminem and Lady GaGa.

Status : Offline | Beethoven might be an exception yes, because we're already paying taxes on playing music in public and a fee for every portable media device we buy (cd-r, USB stick, etc) Taxes that goes to artists who didn't create these compositions :

Status : Offline | Hey, what is wrong with with Brahms? Brahms wrote one of the most beautiful violin concerto's ever... (not counting Bruch, of course).
I'll look for some nice online versions if I have time tomorrow.
Beethoven does have a lot of nice music for piano. It's a while since I played, but he has a lot of nice sonatas. If you're just starting out on piano, besides Fur Elise, try out his Moonlight Sonata for a relatively easy but emotive piece. (..or are you doing it on guitar? - well, I suppose it would work for guitar as well. )

Status : Offline | The 1st movement of the Moonlight Sonata is relatively easy to learn and play per se, but not easy to play well. One also needs big hands to play it well since some chords span more than one octave. The 3rd movement is among the most difficult Beethoven wrote.
