Have we ever talked about what we considered who or what are the most annoying characters in adventure games?  If not, let's do so.  I'll have to come back to this after I think of someone.

Just off the top of my head...

Nina in Secret Files: Tunguska. That voice!!!!!!!! Make it stop!!!!!!!!

Jo in Belief & Betrayal. A real wise a$$. Just about every time he opened his mouth I wanted to jam a sock in it.

Let's see... well, Caroline has been annoying in every Adventure Game I've ever played. But then again, she's not a character in a game, is she.

In the game The Longest Journey, the foul dude-creep that lived across the hall from our female protaganist was someone I couldn't wait to disappear. What a potty-mouth he was.

I guess it would be any Adventure Game where some well-meaning little miscreant pops up and says, "Are you SURE you're making the right decision?"

"Oh, bugger off! If I choose to make the wrong decision, then I'll just blow up! At least I won't have to listen to your incessant holier-than-thou nagging any longer!"

Off-hand, though, I can't think of too many insufferable "nyah-nyahs" in Adventure Games. Maybe more later after some thought. And nags.

Please proofread your posts carefully to see if you any words out.

Glottis from Grim Fandango. Cute, but annoying.

Ozzie Mandrill from Escape from Monkey Island. Made to be an annoying aussie i know but there wasn't anything more to his character than that.

Murray! I enjoy his jokes but the whole taking over the world theme gets old. Strangely, I really liked him in Tales.

Brian and Gina from Runaway (Do they need to talk so much?  :
)

Sam and Max: Sybil, Stinky, Bosco and very rarely but gratingly, Max. I think that's the point, though.

George Stobbart from Broken Sword - I just can't relate to his character at all or the things he says, but maybe that's because he's a lawyer

Cedric in King's Quest V. Annoying voice and character, and why did he have to be my companion during the entire game.

Second worst is Zack (Keepsake), his constant being scared of everything wore out quickly  :-/

I vote for the whiny idiot in Black Mirror 2. He was so awful I blanked out his first name.

The shopkeeper guy in Keepsake was also cringe worthy.

And I totally agree about the B & B character. He was soulless and callous at the same time.

Currently playing:  Dragon Age Origins,  Darkness Within 2, The Witcher, Fallout 3

Nina. -Not her voice, just her personality; especially the Nina of SF 2 , she was still bearable in SF Tunguska.

The guy you play in Black Mirror 2 - in fact almost all the characters in BM2 qualify for this list.

Timothy Moor in Alter Ego.

PS - Apart from her voice - what's so bad about Mona?

This is an interesting question - an annoying protagonist makes it v difficult to play a game and the reason I often can't finish. Consequently I can't remember the names of the the one's that bugged me the most lol..

Oh, you mean Mr. Gruel's wife? All I can say is that I am grateful we didn't have to talk to him much.

Did anyone else find  Joe's wife Ivy in Downfall to be extremely irksome with her psychotic babbling? And that was without voice acting!

Easy for me... Hands down, Oscar from Syberia. I hate him, hate him, HATE HIM.

When he was agonizing and uttered the final words "Keep walking... Kate Walker", I was hoping he would recover so that I could kill him with my own hands.

Awfully trite character.

One of the things I love about AGs is that not all of the protagonists are perfect people that appeal to everyone. I also love most of the larger than life characters & the more quirky ones even though many of them have annoying personalities. I don't judge a book by it's cover & embrace the fact that AGs do include such a variety of 'recognisable' personalities, in many cases stereotypical but at the same time reflective of people that you can & do come across in the real world who have a specific place in it perhaps because of the way they are - & many of them are good people with qualities to be admired!

I'm reluctant to name annoying characters because I'm aware that a sequel to Keepsake was never made because of criticism there but I have to say I really disliked the 'sleezy' owner of the photography shop in BM2 but I can say that because I loved the game!

Finally thought of some.....The mouse from Kings Quest 5 and the Minotaur from Kings Quest 6.  Their voices are really lowsy.

I'm with Markornikov: Cedric sucked.  So did the narrator in Gabriel Knight.

The narrator in GK was really charming, though the voice directors should have known that sloooow speech doesn't cut it in adventure games.

The annoying characters that come to my mind now are the nerd and the hippie caricatures in Episode 3 of Tales of Monkey Island. They felt completely out of place in the Monkey Island universe and what's worse they were really annoying in general.

I just realized I don't remember any characters from Hand of Fate except Zanthia, the Hand and the peacock wizard that the Hand was supposed to be the sidekick of. And it wasn't that long since I played it.

The fish queen in Malcolm's Revenge was quite irritating though.

Yes, absolutely. Having to listen to myself -- make the same slow comment every time I did some comment action -- just about killed my ability to enjoy the game.
