Well I luckily got most of my problems ironed out. The ole Fallout 3 trick worked for me for the stutters (IFPSCLAMP=60 instead of 0 in the ini), same problem I had with FO3.

Options work after deleting them and letting it start again so I got things set back right.

Only problem left is the audio going low sometimes.

Traveller, you just have to connect once when you install/activate it then you can use it offline  like any other steam game.

It also makes use of Cloud, so your settings/saves are good, even if you accidently delete them locally or forget to back them up for a format it'll be on the cloud for you, that's a plus in my book.

Well, a patch automatically downloaded, and now I crash out of the game.  Freaking mess right now, apparently.

I'm about 9.5 hours into NV and have only experienced (2) bugs:

1) Save Game bug - Auto/Quick Saves revert back to earlier ones - I saved at 1.5 hours, played another 2 hours, then tried to load via my QuickSave and it reverted back to the save I did at 1.5 hours.  Fortunately, there's a fix so I was back in action in no time.  The 'fix', per se, is to manually save via Esc -> Save.  It's what I normally do so no big irritation.

2) Gun doesn't fire and VATS won't come up for about 3-5 seconds on rare occasions.  It's happened twice so far in 9 hours, so I'm not too worried - it's nothing game breaking.

Overall, I'm have an insanely great time traveling around and soaking up the sites... it's Fallout 3 goodness all over again, and I can't get enough!

But argh!  Those flippin' Radscorpions are back and as annoying as ever!  I'm running away like a scared child every time I stumble across one

Oh yes, having a ball!  I'm in Primm now.  Just met a woman who makes a mean radscorpion stew and uses the venom to create a hot and spicy sauce.  Mmmm.

Can't play much before Saturday, but Saturday is a two diaper day.

Wow, w ho thought of this BS?

If you open the console (~) key, even accidently or simply to hide the hud for screenshots (What I did) you will no longer get ANY achievements at all in the game.

So even if you don't type anything in, or cheat, or do ANYTHING, simply opening the console voids any achievements you can get from then on.

Im' not an achievement whore, don't go out of my way to get every single one in a game, but some of them are good tow ork toward an keep up some reasons for doing certain things.

Correction:  you don't get STEAM achievements if you use the CC.  You still level up, etc.  Perks in NV are every other level, not every level like FO3.  I don't care about Steam at all.

The latest post by the producers said Steam Cloud is disabled until all fixes are patched.  They're working hard.

Thanks for the warning, though, Stiler.  Good to know about not touching the tilde key in advance.  I also used the tilde  for screenshots in Oblivion.
My current keyboard has it's escape key sitting in a funny place, so I do sometimes hit my tilde instead of my ESC...

I actually prefer incentives not to cheat, I think.  I found myself cheating here and there in my last Oblivion playthough (especially when replaying after a crash), and it made me realise that it can be both addictive, but also take the challenge out of a game for you.

I have a couple of the problems most folks have ... crashes every now and then, sound is not in sync sometimes, bullets have no effect.  But not too often.  I'm having a ball ... and I hope I'm skipping a whole bunch of stuff, so I can go back!

Shuffle up and deeeeeal!

That rocket launch 'adventure' was great!  And seeing the launch at the end was a huge payoff!
id you notice the one rocket sputter and dip a bit on take-off?  Awesome!

I'm having a freakin' blast playing this game!  It's enough like F3 that it feels familiar, but different enough to be fresh... there's just so MUCH stuff to do, see and experience.

But I must be honest... I was a bit disappointed with The Strip.  Anyone else underwhelmed by it a bit?

I've been putting off going to the Strip.  My quests just aren't leading me that way.

I did come within a heartbeat of killing all Ceaser's guys the first time I met them.  But since they didn't attack me, I figured live and let live.

Just when I thought that the radscorpions were no big deal, along comes this mutant-sized one!   Keep your eyes peeled.

And I agree, this is not totally like F3. The feel is a little different, the art and "vision" are different, the music is different (most of which doesn't feel Fallout-ish to me... some even sounded like the Cleft music in URU.)  I also don't get the feeling of worldwide destruction.  So far, it just seems like the world wore itself away into poverty, instead of a world recreating itself from the ruins of devastation.  Then again, I've only played about 1 percent of what I will play, so there's tons to explore.

I am saving like a maniac.  I crashed four times so far, but it seems to have no lingering effect except loss of what you haven't saved.

Woohoo!

Does it make any sense playing Fallout: New Vegas without playing Fallout 3? I am inclined to do so, but maybe I should start with 3 first...

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Either is fine. There is no continuing thread of story. Fallout New Vegas has a bunch of bugs right now, big ones.  A patch is coming, but I'd suggest starting with Fallout 3 (if you don't get the Game of the Year edition, be sure to download the patch).

There's a good thread here about Fallout 3.

Hi, Inesrocks!  Well why don't you just game in short doses?  I also don't game as much as I used to, but I find I really start missing it if I abstain completely.

As to your q, I don't think new Vegas follows directly on to FO3, so I don't see why not.

EDIT: But wait, Halcyon has a good point there.  You can now get FO 3 GOTY which includes all the expansions, for what I would imagine to be a favourable price.

It has similar gameplay and atmosphere, so I agree with Halcyon,  go for FO3 first.

On topic, I made a trade with a friend last night, (he is having probs with his PC so he is getting the Xbox version rather) and I thus got hold of a brand new copy of New Vegas, PC version.
Just started and I'm liking it so far.    Although I dislike the bleak countryside, the graphics and gameplay are good, and I'm starting to remember how much I enjoyed FO3.   8-)

Eek!  What have they done with the mouse?  Everytime I go into the actual action screen, I have to jack my mouse dpi riiiigght up, (my mouse can be set manually on the actual mouse) but when I exit into the menu or the pipboy, the cursor jumps around like a jack-in-the box on speed and I have to wind the mouses' dpi riiiiight down again.

EDIT: [edit]Nevermind, I see now that you have to set mouse sensity more up, ingame, instead of more down, and then your actual mouse down.  Which takes a bit of finetuning, since I normally prefer to use my mouse at 3000 dpi +.[/edit]

Anyway, I was wondering...  how does one holster your weapon?

Btw, I like that one can pick ingredients.

Press and hold "R" (the reload key, unless you've remapped it) to holster your weapon.

Also, press and hold Tab (again, unless you've remapped your PIPBoy key) to turn on your light.

35 hours now on NV... and feel like I've barely scratched the surface!

Watch out for the large fly-things (their name escapes me at the moment).  They'll kill you faster than you can say "New Ve..."

I've only played a couple of hours so far.

So far, so Fallout 3. Haven't seen much different apart from the new work bench, campfire recipe system. Oh and the pip boy is amber.

Playing the 360 version.

Aha! I must try holding down R for longer then.  I know R makes you equip your weapon, but when I pressed it again while equipped, it made me reload, and I stell kept on holding it.

Thanks Xernosam!

So far I have killed geckos, praying mantises, humans and bloatflies.  Needless to say, the humans had the best loot!   I'm a bit at a loss as to which side to take, Spoiler Alertwith the Powder Gang guys... - I think I'd opt to help Ringo, hm?

Actually Trav, your mouse is fine. It's "mouse acceleration," the same thing that plagued FO3 without fixing it, which is actually easy.

In your Falloutpref.ini (MY documents>my games>fallout NV) open it up and put this at the bottom of the "Controls" portion,

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

That turns it off and your mouse should work normally without being all wonky because of the mouse acceleration and you wont' have to fiddle with the dpi on it.

Also one small tip, if you  side with Goodsprings, make sure afterwards to at least keep one of their outfits for later on, to use a disguise.

Remember that you can store things in ammunition boxes without them disappearing.

If you head up to the memorial (that huge Cross you can see from the hill up North of Goodsprings) just a small bit to the northeast of that memorial is a little broken down house that makes for a good place to store yourself and also has a reloading bench and bed inside it. This is the best place you can find early on to make your "home" to put all your junk in so it won't weigh you down, just store it all in the ammunition box in the house.

Hey, it's so cool to have you guys around.  Thanks Stiler!

Btw, I did accidentally touch my tilde key - twice, when wanting to press the TAB key...  :'(

Actually I am still getting Achievements even though I've pushed the tilde key to take screens.

I Think it only stops you from getting them IF you type things in/activate things (IE use it to kill enemies, bring back npc's, etc).

MY friend was using it for screens as well and he got achievements fine, then late in the game he used it to bring back a companion that got lost and he didn't get anymore after that.

Details....I didn't like the amber.  I switched back to the good ole green.

I like having a companion.  I have Boone.  Where is Veronica?

I LOVE this bleak landscape.  Some point this out as a negative in the game.  LMAO. It's the POINT.  Some also say they are disappointed in the Strip.  I think it's great!  Lots to explore.

Right now, I'm running my butt off on errands for the Elder at the Hidden Valley bunker.  Getting a bit tired of these "go find this" missions.

Also, I'm having trouble picking sides.  Which is the "good" team?  I can't decide right now.  Which, I think, is part of the whole challenge.

Because I'm on quests, I feel I'm missing a ton of things.  I can see myself playing and replaying this game for a long time.  And I've only just begun.......

How about the amount of locations and missions in New Vegas compared to Fallout 3?

I'm hearing conflicting reports, some say there are less, others say there are much more?  :-?

When I get through the entire game, sometime in 2012, I'll let you know.
There are tons of quests and things to do, and areas that aren't unlocked until you reach certain levels.  It is huge.

From what I've heard (and so far experienced) the map itself is bigger, and there appears to be more locations.  I've barely scratched the surface of the center 1/3 of the map, and I've found over 50 locations.

There's so much to see and do, and I don't feel there's as much empty void areas as there were in F3 - not that I disliked those parts, it just seems there is less of it.

I'm 40 hours in, lvl 20.  More weapon variety this time around, along with more companion commands/options (though I'm not big on companions) and I'm well on my way to building my collection of lunchboxes, toy dinos and Nuka Cola trucks!
