Wish I was in my version of heaven, which would entail: endles energy, perfect body and eyes that never get tired, plus in my posession all the video games ever made, monster machines to play them with, and endless time to play them in.
Hope you have fun, H; - and hopefully you'll keep us posted. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] ..and in the meantime, enjoy the anticipation!

I found it rather bland and shallow, after playing for a while (initially I was quite delighted with the whole atmosphere -- stepping out of the Vault and seeing the wasted city landscape set out before you was truly breathtaking).
But I'm not sure what New Vegas has that could lure me back -- care to share any interesting new developments?

Maybe it depends how you play the game, but I'm a wanderer and explorer, and it's amazing all the things you find, interesting characters, unmapped little places, etc. I also love the vision--what it looks like after an apocalypse, who is left, what creatures roam.  id you play Mothership Zeta? Lots of fun.
Anyhoo, different strokes. I have to say that I'm enjoying action games far more than the adventure games of late.

Status : Online | I didn't mean to imply the game WAS shallow, as it was in actuality far from, in terms of most games. But to me, it felt shallow after a while, I often found myself wanting to know more about a particular character or plot or relationship, or wanted further developments, and was rarely if ever rewarded with further knowledge. It felt a bit like quantity over quality for me - I would have preferred less side-stories but more content in each. I too am a wanderer at heart, but I felt most places to be a little too 'samey' for my liking - far too much desert and broken grey building and too few personal touches. The Dunwich building tickled my fancy though. I guess I just felt that they spread their resources too thinly, and the result was many small stories that had little real soul.
Bioshock got it right for me, though obviously the two aren't quite comparable - but I felt very 'connected' to the characters in Bioshock, like I knew their personalities and their histories and their motivations, I cared and I loathed and I mused. I can't think of a single character besides my 'father' I really got attached to in even the slightest way in Fallout 3. And so for the entire game there was pretty much a huge disconnect.
I don't think I played Mothership Zeta - I bought a couple of expansions soon after starting the game but I don't think I purchased that one, although I couldn't tell in-game where the main game ended and DLC began (still not sure what was part of the Brotherhood DLC and what wasn't haha).

Did you visit the Republic of Dave? Did you meet Dogmeat or Fawkes and have them tag along? Almost everybody in Megaton has a backstory. And the main quest is just terrific Oh well.
The transition between Main Quest and DLC is your choice. You can stop one and pick up the other. They are completely separate, like Oblivion. When you come across a spaceship wrecked in a hollow in Fallout 3, you are transported up to a mothership full of aliens...new weapons, new characters, very fun.
Anyway, I guess we're a bit different because I didn't enjoy Bioshock much at all. The whole Big Daddy thing irritated me. I loved the setting, but got very claustrophobic after a while. I haven't bought Bioshock 2 and probably won't.
Can't wait to gamble in New Vegas!

Status : Online | I actually had no expectations of Fallout 3 whatsoever - I just heard it was a FPS-RPG and that my friends were enjoying it a lot. Nothing more. I completed the whole game and as far as I know, a huge deal of the side quests - I did play it quite a lot, over a long period of time. I visited the Republic of Dave, which was one of the more interesting quests, though I didn't like how Dave leaving didn't seem to affect the settlement (my problem overall - despite my actions and choices, whichever conclusion a quest would come to rarely seemed to actually do anything - for instance the love story quest in Rivet City - I saw no loving interactions between the two after I got them together, things seemed pretty much the same as they were -- and the Blood Ties quest with Lucy West - she didn't care whatsoever that her entire family was slaughtered, never mentioned it again). I met both Dogmeat and Fawkes, and enjoyed both of (though I ended up having Dogmeat stay at my home in Megaton most of the time because I worried about him too often when roaming).
Anyway, yes, I suppose we must simply be drawn to different things I can't rave enough about the story and characterisation in Bioshock. I haven't purchased Bioshock 2 yet, but I'll get around to it eventually.
I will be looking forward to reading your thoughts on New Vegas

While I was hesitant at first at who was the dev on it, I've quickly gotten over it and now am s-t-o-k-e-d about it. I played F3 for well over 300 hours total, so I hope to get the same amount of time (if not longer) out of NV.
Almost there!!

In the meantime, do let us know what you think, while the rest of us sit enviously drooling in the corner...

I have a couple gamers on my team that will ask for time off for game releases and such, which I'm OK with (of course). Folks earn time off to take it when/however they want, IMO, so I'm easy... it just warms my heart when they take it off to game.
One of my direct reports is taking the week off too for Fallout: NV, so we're excited for the following week when we get back to compare notes.

7-1/2 days! hehe One of my favorite time killers in Red Dead Redemption was playing Texas Hold em in the various saloons and back rooms. Gobs of fun and just a touch of tension when attempting to cheat
Looking forward to scamming money from the Wastelanders in New Vegas.
I remember over a year ago learning about New Vegas... I can't believe it's just around the corner!

| Deleted User | Hundreds of hours? I don't suppose you could zero in on an integer for that decimal place if I may ask H. 8-) Finally got around to ordering F3, the game that comes with the five additional expansion packs. I had allocated three months for gameplay, looks like I should update that to at least six, probably a lot more.

| Deleted User | Great, looks like I should go ahead for now and at least finish off a few other minor things in the next week or so before I go in for the long haul. I tend to be apprehensive when undertaking a game of this magnitude but after the Dragon Age adventure I need to move on....
Thanks for sharing these details and inspiring me.

A quick note of caution: rather do as many sidequests as you may be interested in, before you get too far along with the main quest, since at a certain point (this happened to me Tongue   the MQ won't let you "escape" anymore to do sidequesting, and it kinda sweeps you along to the ending much too quickly; which in this games' case is a definite ending, after which you cannot carry on, unless you reload a much earlier save before you got too involved with the MQ.

I remember I waited and waited for the Broken Steel DLC to be released so that I could "unlock" my game again, since I really didn't feel like replaying from some earlier gamesave way back before the Main Quest forced an ending to the game.
If you'll be getting the package with all the DLC included, I suppose one could use Broken Steel to "resurrect" yourself and carry on, but it felt rather artificial to me when I did it, and I also had to replay that very last scene with Broken Steel installed.
Let me have a look around on the 'net, maybe it doesn't end if you have Broken Steel installed right from the beginning?
EDIT: I found a very useful thread about this whole issue here.
It seems you can indeed play with Broken Steel installed right from the beginning, but be warned that it does to a certain small extent change the ending. Not to a huge extent, though, so go for it if you want to. Some nice tips in that thread that I pointed to, anyway.
