Status : Offline | i am glad for that. Did you see the fun exhibit about that floating city on Democratis in the museum on Sunder? Amazing detail that continues with this game, i love interactive displays in museums and there are all of those in there for us to enjoy and to add to the story. Lotsofun glad you are past that ghost world. I will make a note of that for future possible fixes when i talk to the Chinaman. I have only had one crash from the game so far, after the floating crate mini game below Anachronox, which is a complex in game feature and i had to use the Ignore and get past it option as my reflexes are lousy. I was able to come back with a save also and continue on fine.
Originally, before the official 1.01 patch, you could only save with the TimeMinders....but i am glad they implimented the save anywhere feature for such problems should they arise.

I ended up with the braclet too, my Boots never gave it to her. Not sure if that is a bug or not..but it does not seem to interfere with the game.
Be sure to talk to everyone btw, it gives you lots of clues and helps get you to all the sub quests.
Just in case it will help, there is a great walkthrough by mps247 that gives the sub quests so you dont miss anything before you move from world to world here:
http://www.the-spoiler.com/ACTION/Eidos/anachronox.1.html
Be sure to visit her friend once Grumpas joins your party and have him talk to her friend for a special resolution of a problem.

Status : Offline | Talk about Grumpas I've been to his building and have found the building directory- my cursor doesn't seem to 'register' it and when I go to his door once more nothing happens (or should I say I can't even get to his front door cos his building section doesn't open and I can't seem to pick the lock). Any tips?

The elevator door should be open just across from the directory.
You dont need to 'register" his roomo , just get the room number and explore to find it.
you push the machine in the elevator to activate it with the cursor.
once you get to his door, you have to pick the lock, usual way, if you need help picking locks let me know ....you should have picked the lock in Boots office to get money just after you arrived so hopefully you know about picking...

Status : Offline | maybe you need to do the lock in your (boots) office first, it sounds like youir skill builds up as you go along. I will check the Manual. Here is a link for it just in case:
http://www.filefront.com/15855801/Anachronox-Manual.rar/
here is a description of lock skill...and from my own play thru maybe you need to go back to Franks Flophouse and pick some more of those locks to gain experience.... just a thought:
Sly's Worldskill allows you to, as the name suggests, picklocks. When activated, you will be presented with a picture of up to five cylinders. Below these cylinders are a set of numbers. The aim is to get the right number for each cylinder. But don't think the numbers are the same all the time, because they reset themselves if you fail.
Click on the up or down, or press the up or down keys on the keyboard, to change the active cylinder. Then click on the cyclinder, or press the space key on the keyboard, to try that number. The meter to the left shows how close you are on a scale of one to five. Therefore, if the meter gives a reading half-way up, you are three numbers out from the number entered.
When the correct number is discovered, the meter will move on to the next cylinder and the process starts again. Repeat this until you unlock all the cylinders. The lock will now open.
A timer is shown in the top left of the window. If it runs out, you will fail to pick the lock and will have to start again.
Fatima will tell you if you are not skilled enough to pick a lock.

Anyway have played as much as I can today and am really enjoying it. I kinda know my way round a bit more (all those lifts at the beginning were quite claustrophobic and disorienting) and am loving the game. Such a fantastic city, the animations (lifts, bendy tunnels, fountains etc) are great! First visit to the platform area was awesome. I can't wait to see what else there is.
Traveller I really think you should try it. Once you get past the animations (and seriously a little bit of gamma correction goes a long way) the game will really draw you in.
Just to say so far I am playing on Vista with no patches and it seems to be working fine. The patches caused the game to crash when I had them loaded up. Is the game going to die on me later on or should I carry on as I am?

The patches fix certain quests and i think i know enough about what lies ahead at least for a while to help you if things dont work. I would keep going as you are, ys it is a wonderful world and gets better
Some seriously amazing genius designers worked on this game, both artistically and game story wise. Some real pros. Glad you got the right door.

Status : Offline | Re Mods, the developers gave us all the tools for mods, but i dont know the answer to that. There was a website for years called Planet Anachronox and that would be the place to find out about any possible mods. I have not had time to dig re that, but the site is archived..no longer active so you cant post, but the threads are still there. I will see if i can find the address as i am planning to try to revive it or at least copy the data base. Long answer...short answer, dont know.
I found and reviewed the archived Planetanachronx forum and found several mod projects but none completed that i can see...sorry.
http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/planetanachronox/
Since the rights got purchsed by Square Enix, there remains hope for a sequel, as Tom Hall has never revealed the plot of the planned second installment, hoping still to either do it with the rights owner or get the rights back and do it himself. We can hope.
I am going to try to reach Tom and will see what i can find out.

yes, no mods that i can find at this point. Be sure to apply all the patches refer to the post above in this thread and please let me know of any questions. There are two versions of the latest patch, number 46, either one will work, one is a BIN patch and the other is a straight patch, i have gathered all versions to preserve them. Apply the patches in order, 1.01, 1.02, 44, 45 and then 46

DICSOVERY!..... i found btw a way to get off the main path of the slideway you are on for the story, i think it is a undiscovered bug...but you can jump from the main slideway area to the lower slideway and explore more of the amazing city world....and it did not appear to cause any harm in my progress, just be sure to save before this point.... I will hide it with a spoiler...

Spoiler AlertYou get to the spot where the floating man is, and after he does his thing if you complete the conversation he flies off, stand just by where he was and you can jump over and down to the lower slideway and your companions will follow you safely too. You can move around and see some areas that are inacessible from view above. Fun discovery. Enjoy.
BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE TAKING THIS DETOUR, YOU WONT BE ABLE TO GET BACK TO THE MAIN GAME PATH FROM THERE...SO THIS IS A ONE WAY SIGHTSEEING TRIP .... as far as i know, i did not try accessing either end of the walkway did not want to break the game.

there is so much detail in this area that i wonder if they had maybe planned to include it in the game story and then changed the plans...or intended it for use in a mod or some other form...

this is such a beautiful area, this city world utopia, such detail and ambience... and beatifully thought out effects like the waterfalls and the murals and the overall feel, this could really be a model of a great vision of an urban utopia....a remarkable achievments 3D world wise for any genre.

several things to do before leaving Anachronox if you havent yet
Spoiler Alert there is a crystal that Grumpas can pick up at Wackmaster Jacks that allows him to do something special on Sender Station, ...and also have PAL talk to the robot you see just as you enter into the actual area of the Travel Agency that has all the blue screens with arrivals and departures. ....he will get an upgrade from that robot too and have a great conversation.
Also while you are at Whackmaster Jacks, have PAL hack the small socket in the wall on the lowest level of that area, under the ramp, you will see it, that is good practice to learn how to hack using PAL and he gets a good item.
And if by any chance you did not complete a task for a detective with a indy jones type hat, go find him and do that, as you meet him again and each time you get something special but you miss whatever he might have given you in a previous meeting. Ys the sock thing...was briliant glad you are enjoying it so much.

Spoiler AlertYou have to do all of his quests to keep getting all the things he has to give you, otherwise he will drop one of the items from the list, and you wont get another chance at it. In this case you get the PAX Flashpak, which can be used on Boots' LifeCursor, it blinds opponents in combat. The last thing that Rukh gives Boots is a Master Lockpick skill but we dont get it if we have missed any of the previous quests.
If you are doing the Red Bhippirill Quest (sp?) be sure to keep an eye and an ear out for them, they have that funny little song that is a clue to their location.

no online version ...game was not coded for that, it could be convereted but it would be a huge project. I dont know how much we can access ...but i do know they did supposedly give us a full set of development tools in the 1.2 official patch which may have given us access to the levels and code. not sure yet.
It would be a blast to play multiplayer

btw, there is a mini game coming up for fellow players of A, after you leave Sunder, i wont give away any details but just bear with it, it took me about 10 tries, but it is well worth the effort, and it is doable. There are some of the best cutscenes i have ever seen after it, and they are really a hoot. Some great writing in this game, really fun.
