It's hard to convince people to try your game (even though it has great story/character/puzzle) if the graphic doesn't look good.

Status : Online | Hello! And thanks for the reply.
I see your point, and it's a good one.
But I can't help but think that it's less important to adventure gamers.
It seems to me that many in this (all too small) niche are more likely to play the older games which didn't look good from today's standards for action games. From that I draw the conclusion that graphics don't matter so much.
Perhaps graphics are not a place one can save much money?
Maybe I should start a poll to see how important graphics are to adventure gamers buying decision.
Anyhow, thanks for the reply!
I've seen many clever, intelligent signatures.&&This isn't one of them.

Status : Online | I recently played a game called darkfate http://kevinsoulas.fr/darkfate which uses pixel art. Not the greatest graphics in the world, but somehow right for the project. I think some of the games charm would be lost if there was amazingly polished cg.
I also played some of the mondo games (you can find all of them at http://cactusquid.com/games.htm ) that also have old school graphics. Again, fitting for the overall style of the game.
What you need to ask yourself is, who is this game for and is it a commercial or freeware release. Commercial gamers are less forgiving when it comes to CG, if it's not up to scratch then it will affect your games chances. Many indie fans are open to much more and you'll find a much better reception there whatever your game looks like.
If you have a good idea, then you should run with it. Some of my favorate games come from my old Spectrum and Amiga days and the graphics on them were shocking by todays standards!
