I'm down for a sequel though, hopefully it'll be more like Curse and less, much less, like Escape.

Game remakes are not like movie remakes, usually get a remake with updated graphics but the same storyline, etc.

... it boils down to personal preference. I'm just set against it, thankfully it hasn't caught on in gaming like Hollywood's unrelenting bastardization of classic films. But, for example, ignoring "complete overhaul" remakes, I see no difference between updating the graphics in a game or adding color to a black and white movie. It's just... wrong!

well... not everyone likes "pixelized" and old school games so if there's a chance for those people to play it in a more modern way.. I don't see whats wrong with it! me, personally, although I played the first MI's I'm really happy that I will be able to play the first one again with much better graphics.

Heh, I had that reaction when I got the email about this. And I couldn't really believe what I was seeing at first -- "Tales of Monkey Island. (pause) TALES OF MONKEY ISLAND!!!!!"
I just have to remind myself it won't be like the old games, it can't be. But it still should be a lot of fun. Can't wait to try it!

Just because they make a new version doesn't mean the old one ceases to exist.
You can still play and enjoy the old version, it has no affect on you.
I do agree with you when they change the storylines/characters and things around, still though you always have the old ones to remember and still watch/play again.

I heartily recommend you play the original games, but according to Telltale people new to Monkey Island will still enjoy the new series.
From the game FAQ:
" Of course, the series will be full of jokes that longtime Monkey Island fans can appreciate, but if you're a newbie, Tales of Monkey Island is a fine place to start."

Yes, I sadly realize I've missed out on these often enough. Hopefully the re-make of CMI will be a success. Wouldn't it be awesome if LeChuck's revenge would in time perhaps get the same treatment. Just a wishfull thought and of course barring any interference from the sacrilegious sect. [img]http://www.clipartof.com/images/thumbnail/785.gif [/img]
I picked up Escape from MI a couple of years ago on a trade but somehow playing it at the time just didn't feel right with it being the fourth/last? in the series....

Yeah, you definitely don't want to start with the fourth game. I liked it more than most people did, but it was definitely the weakest in the series by far.

Ugh, LadyK, if there was a "strangle" smiley, I would use it now! [smiley=indie.gif] :'( [smiley=hair_pull.gif] [smiley=hair_pull.gif]
Um...- Gonchi - those black and white movies would have been colour, if only they had the technology back then, (excepting "art films" made in B & W on purpose, of course)... and you betcha if MI #1 had been made today for the first time, it would not have been with 2 pixels per screen, so why not give a good game the benefit of technology?
/me looks at Gonchi suspiciously... er... you're not one of those people who put their microwave in the attic in lieu for a coal stove, and who writes with a quill instead of a ball point, are you? [smiley=raise_eyebrow.gif]
...sigh... yes, them were the good old days, but technology has its advantages - quills make the most horrible ink blothces, unfortunately... ...just teasing :-* :-* :-* I do understand that you love the original, and fear that they will not do it justice. In any case, whatever they do, it will not be quite the same, I do understand that. But like the other posters have said, the original version is not going away, and if you are still able to play it, nothing is stopping people from doing that- in fact I think the remake does come with the original version as well.

Status : Online | Gonchi - the remake has an option to play the original version as well.
Now that I'm slightly less excited and can think streight, here are a few comments about the remake: - I hope you'll be able to play with subtitles on. - I hope you'll be able to play the old version with new sounds. That would be great. - Hiding the SCUMM interface will ruin one puzzle and one easter egg, but otherwise I prefer the simple interface. - LeChuck's redesign is weird. The colours are just... wrong. - Guybrush's hair is weird. - Wonder how the Loom bit will go in the remake considering it's now irrelevant. - Love everything else about it of course.
Comments about Tales: - Seeing the MI characters in the Telltale style is weird. Especially Guybrush. - It's also strange/cool how Guybrush's design fits the one used for fake MI5 art and fanart in general (tall Guybrush with MI2 clothes and beard). - I'm expecting this series to have a lot of stuff for the fans. Hopefully it will not take over the game. - It was a great choice making it such a big surprise!
