I've just posted a press release from Microids concerning the upcoming Syberia 3. Yep, there's gonna be a third one, for both PS3 and PC.

http://www.justadventure.com/Press_Releases/MicroidsLaunchesSyberia3_Apr1_09.shtm

Initially, I was ecstatic about this news. I truly love the first two Syberias.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was considerably dampened when I read this:

"Syberia 3, the new episode in the adventures of Kate Walker, actually allows those playing on PC and those playing on PS3 to collaborate online, thanks to a simultaneous data exchange and sharing mode on the two platforms.

"Syberia 3 will therefore see teams of players being formed so as to optimize their chances of reaching the end of the adventure by pooling the abilities of each of the participants. Only PS3 players who have collaborated with PC players, and vice versa, will be able to accompany Kate to the end of the adventure."

Say what?!!?? Players will have to go online and collaborate with other players in teams or they won't be able to finish the game?

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I can't believe Microïds is doing this. Not only that, but the collaborative effort feature is to be included in all future Microïds titles.

Does anyone else have a problem with this?

Greyfuss is right.
If they really were going to make a Syberia 3 they wouldn't be announcing it on April Fool's Day.

Heh, deja vu all over again. I did a Syberia related April Fool's day post here a few years ago, about a new TV series with Kate, Oscar, and Youki travelling the world in a sort of Scooby-Doo spin off called Youki-Doo. Kate taking the place of Daphne, Oscar instead of Shaggy, and Youki in place of Scooby. And of course, Scooby snacks became Youki snacks. I bet they would have made a killing on the merchandising, with Youki's face stamped on everything. :

wow, well they fooled me, the idea was just wacky enough to be believable and unlikable

ah good, i will settle in to wait for a REAL Syberia 3 which Microids will, if they have ANY sense at all left in their collective developer heads, do SOON! as we all need the relaxation and enjoyment of another trip with Kate

What a crazy idea.  No, not the joint operation thingy between PC and PS3.... no the wacky idea that any of us would want to go anywhere with Kate Walker.

Have you all forgotten so soon what happened to her other buddies?  One was canabalised and the other was abandoned while being attacked and carried off as lunch by a herd of wild beasts.

And let's not forget the friendly penguins or the terrible weather she lost people in.

No, sorry folks, this is one trip I'm not falling for.  Last time I went anywhere with her she booked me onto a train with no dining car....

I would love to see a new Syberia taking over on her own adventure of discovery, though I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I almost believe this til I read the part about the online stuff.

I definitely wasn't in on anything. I'd never kick fellow gamers in the teeth like that. I have a fairly wicked sense of humor, but it does have its limits.

If this is, indeed, an April Fool's joke then I think Microids has lost its little mind. The press release is all over the Internet now, and most sites are treating it as genuine.

The press release is even posted on the Microids site:
http://www.microids.com/en/press/
http://www.microids.com/en/press/28/microids-launches-syberia-3-on-ps3-.html

The one I received (via Randy) is a PDF doc complete with Microids logo and Syberia graphics, and is from Microids' official press contact.

If this is a joke it's not only an elaborate one, it's completely blown Microids' credibility with me.

But who knows? I just post what Randy sends...[smiley=huh.gif]

According to this article, Microids has admitted it was a joke...

Well it got their name spoken about.  Any publicity is good publicity, etc.

Deleted UserI see that the 'official' announcement is still up on the microids site.  I wonder how long they are planning to keep it posted.  I agree this poses a negative strike on their credibility, heck, anyone's for that matter.  Sorry Karla, should have blamed Randy.

Could they possibly be that hard-up for publicity? It's almost like a kid throwing a tantrum for negative attention, believing that any attention is good.

I'm still not 100% convinced it's a joke. This would only happen if Microids were to tell me directly that it is.

To the best of my knowledge, they haven't said anything about it being a joke on their site. Well, where's the payoff in that? If you pull a joke that lots of people believe, what good is it if you don't tell them it's a joke?

Or maybe they're all just sitting in a back room at Microids laughing at everybody. I just don't know.

And why keep the press release up on their site past April 1 if it's not true? Something just doesn't add up here...

I think its real - it's posted at several major sites. I'd love to see if they do a DS version of the game.

I'm also looking forward to Secret Files 2 for the DS.

Syberia for the DS was kinda weak, but maybe Syberia 3 would work out OK.

Jackal confirmed that it was a joke over on ***Adventuregamers*** (post #12).

"It's definitely false, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I double-checked with Microids as soon as the release was posted yesterday, and when they finished snickering, they did indeed confirm the gag."

I agree with Karla that it wasn't funny to be sending this out as an official announcement.

I've checked with Randy, and he knows nothing about it being a joke. He doesn't think it is, though. He says the French don't have that type of sense of humor.

Perhaps I can assume that the good folks at Microids just seem to have too much free time on their hands.  Very sad.

Of the four sites saying they checked with Microids, one said it had contacted a "PR contact" one said it had contacted Microids, and the other two don't mention contacting anyone.

I'd sure be interested in knowing the actual name(s) of whoever at Microids confirmed it's a joke.

It's now April 3rd in France and the press release is still up on the Microids site. Some joke, eh?
