I just cannot believe this! If that is true, I'm definitely not getting it. Not even for free. Are you sure? You and Nik better keep us posted!

Edit: AVS is a full game, but made with the knowledge that a sequel would follow, and some are unhappy, feeling that it sets up the sequel rather than ending properly. Whether it was ever envisioned as one game, I don't know.
A-T: "We were also told that A Vampyre Story is just the beginning of a larger story. What is the current state of part two? Can you already tell us something about the sequel?"
Bill: "We designed AVS1 and 2 at the same time, so a lot of the art and preproduction art was already done for it. So it is under production now and I hope will be out this time next year since we don't have to make a new engine. But I have reportedly been wrong about release dates sometimes in the past, so don’t consider this a release date announcement or anything like that."

Something like Syberia then... Well, I'll focus on the good news as I didn't even know about the sequel!

Many games end like this, in fact.
As long as you don't actually feel that you've played only half a game. I presume you're still going to play it, as you already have the game, Loobiloo. Please give us your personal impressions after playing it.

Status : Offline | The game refuses to start up. It passes the disk check (a simple disk check, mind you, no internet validation and other such [smiley=bullcrap.gif]) the screen goes black as if the game is about to start, then it goes back to the desktop without any error message. I have the latest drivers and the most up-to-date version of DirectX 9.0c, and while my rig isn't top of the line, it far exceeds the game's minimum and indeed recommended specs, and it plays everything else (The Witcher, Fallout 3...) fine, including the game's demo.
I tried changing the resolution beforehand in case that was the problem, I even went as far as to uninstall Alcohol in case it conflicts with whatever copy protection scheme the game uses, but no go. I also tried using a crack, but still the problem remains ( but you do skip the 10 seconds or so the disk checking takes every time you start up :).
I guess until Ati releases a new driver for my graphics card (HD 3850) I'll just have to wait >.
Edit: I just read that some people have had success getting the game to run by setting it to use only one CPU core. It is inconceivable to me that a game released in late 2008 doesn't support multi-core systems, but I'll try. Unfortunately I won't be able to post again until Monday to let everyone know how it goes...

(I'm not sure why he put that in as a spoiler because it doesn't reveal anything at all about the plot or story or puzzles.)
Good luck with finding a solution, Nik. If the game has a problem with multi-core processors, it must be only with some of them or nearly everyone would be having a problem with it. Did you run ProtectionID on it to see what DRM it was using?

I've got it in mind to play it next Traveler & will certainly get back with impressions. I'm hoping that it might work like the Syberia games where one games concludes satisfactorily but there's more to look forward to but I'm not too hopeful! Here's a quote from a post in Gameboomers:
AVS ends right in the middle of the story. To be honest, in the game's final cutscene there's presented a completely new problem/challenge the heroine will have to face (the previous ones are not entirely solved either) and then it just ends. We'll have to wait for the sequel to learn what happens next.

Mona's voice acting made me want to die, but I really liked the bat. He's so cute without actually being funny at all...
As noted in the forums the voice isn't actually high pitch and annoying in the full game.. Must have been something to do with the demos compression...
I have the full game and I don't think her voice is bad at all, in fact it really fits well. But I do recall when I tried the demo I was a bit put off by it.

Since the official website is useless (and even has a 2007 clone hanging around if you google it) and the forums are down I've no clue where to buy a retail copy. This is really frustrating.
The worst part? If I buy it before the 3rd I just *know* I'll end up hearing it is in stores. So I'm forcing myself to have patience.

During the actual gameplay the sound is just fine.
Also is there no bloody way to change the resolution? Even in the full game? this is 2008, we need widescreen/high res support.

There must be something really wrong with adventure developers these days! The most awaited game and it starts up with lots of people annoyed because the distribution, copy protections, technical problems, voice acting, and all that. I mean how could this be possible? Don't they want to sell the game? Can't they ask some players what they think of the game, before releasing it?
I played the demo and indeed these facts are for real.
I have nVidia 6600 (latest drivers) and the game didn't start from the link it made in the Start program's group. Black screen, than exits. I tried to edit the configs with no effect.
However the game did start when I launched directly from game/main.exe I don't know why.
They seem to use Panda3D engine and have a lot of fallbacks for DX8, DX9, OpenGL. Strange there are still compatibility issues.
The bink videos are not visible in the game (black screen). Had to see them manually, after that
Mona's voice is indeed bad. Surprisingly bad. You can probably get used to it in time, if everything else is fine. But this is no excuse for choosing it.
And if you say there's no ending so far... well I got this a lot! I hated Still Life for that.
One think I'm happy with is they have all game's data exposed (at least in the demo). It's a bit unprofessional, but as a game developer, I can peek at the scripts, materials files, textures, etc.
Well, let's hope they'll come up with a patch to correct some of the problems. But so far I'm not in a hurry to play it anymore.

I can't address your other issues, but over at Adventuregamers people are saying Mona's voice is better in the actual game. They should probably update the demo.

Believing the hype before the substance is...is...well, it's politics, but it's also a lesson in game buying.
I've played the demo and I'm sure it will be a great game for many, but far fewer than are heady over the hype.

Status : Online | Personally I'm just annoyed at how the release was handled. If this game does poorly it will not be because of quality or 'overhype'. It will be because of misinformation and lack of PR. Where is the working website? Where are the list of vendors in which to purchase this game? Why have the forums, which should be up for support, been down since the initial digital release?
As far as I'm concerned Autumn Moon should have taken charge where their publisher did not. Do you realize how hard it is to find proper release info? Is this game even due next week or what? Was it out last week? Was it released in October? Who the hell knows, since it's pretty obvious we were never officially told.
Very very poor management. I turned to ebay after getting fed up but you know what? Had I been less moral I could just have just 'obtained' the game another way. I imagine many folks probably already have.
As I see it if this company ever announces another game I won't hold my breath and will instead wait for it to show up ON the shelf before I believe anything.

Status : Offline | I did indeed get VS to play by setting it to run with just the one cpu core. Played for just ten minutes or so, enough to see for myself that Mona's voice is indeed much better in the game than it is in the demo (how they managed to shoot themselves in the foot like that I'll never know) and then, showing self-restraint that amazed even me , I put it aside until I finished The Lost Crown, which I did last night .
I'll get properly into it this weekend...
I didn't use ProtectID, Jenny, since the fact that it doesn't require on-line activation is enough for me. But since it is important to you, I'll do so tonight and let you know .

It's ProtectionID, not ProtectID. ProtectID is (was?) a type of copy "protection." ProtectionID is a utility that identifies what copy "protection" is being used. Spelling makes a difference with Google searches.

However, I can't help but feel like they have gone through a ton of trouble to make it difficult to enjoy for the legal customers. From what I am also hearing in these threads, the game is also very finicky as to what systems/cards it will run on and now with the latest post about dead ends I can't help but feel greatly disappointed. :-/

And it would be nice for them to visit forums like this one and let the fans know about it, that they're working to fix issues and stuff. For example, the developers of Jack Keane are posting in the Ogre3D forums and they made a very good impression.
Anyway, I'm going to buy and play the game when available for me in stores.

Status : Offline | I seem to have been quite lucky with this game as I didn't experience any problems with installation, launching & playing other than the cursor being a little sticky at times when trying to interact with inventory items - but not enough though to frustrate!
It's a very 'traditional' style adventure with a lot of dialogue & mostly inventory type puzzles with a few novelties added. I enjoyed the voice acting & the dark & often silly humor throughout the game although some of it was just too corny! So it was a real pity to finish the game right slap bang in the middle of the story! Truly! You only get part of a game here which consists of two long chapters, the first of which concludes in itself but the second just leaves you hanging! [smiley=angry.gif]
This would have been acceptable if it had been made plain that the story was going to be released in parts but as it wasn't I feel cheated! [smiley=furious.gif]

For some people, the game just wouldn't start without a lot of fussing around -- if they managed to get it started at all.

- Less "stuck" animations. If problem still occurs, restart game. - removed two bugs (perfume and stadium) that could prevent further playing - Support for graphics cards without AA: if the game did not start on your system, select "Safe AA" during patch installation to set AA to 0. - small bug fixes and tweaks I'm seriously thinking of waiting until Part 2 comes out before buying it, despite the fact that it was my No.1 most anticipated game since I first heard of it. You notice they say "Less "stuck" animations" instead of "fixed stuck animations." I hope Gray Matter turns out to be more enjoyable.
