I have only played this game for one and a half hours, one hour of which has been spent in the very first location outside of the office, the pre-columbian museum. There isn't much to do there, the reason(s) that it has taken me an hour to progress are

1) In order to get an important piece of information you have to re-pack an inventory item and put it back where you found it before talking to somebody..I'm not sure I have ever come across anything like this in a game before, inventory items are usually carried as red herrings, used and abandoned or used over and over again, but never used, then put back where you found them SPECIFICALLY to trigger an important moment in the plot.

2) There are some items you get the examine closely cursor and get the usual 'close up' screen that usually signifies that they should be manipulated in some way ( I won't go into details because its not important what these 'things' are) having spent at least twenty minutes playing around with them I broke down and consulted a walkthrough, which infuriatingly just tells you to 'look at' these items then ignore them, it isn't actually a puzzle at all!

For anybody that has played this game..does it get any better? Or am I being a bit harsh?

Deleted UserSteve, I believe the reason that no one has replied to your post is not that of indifference but that nobody wants to admit they've played the game.  Just to re-assure you, consider the following:

The box art claims 'about 100 difficult tasks' - some of these tasks are what you describe: using the examine cursor and ignoring them.  Some task all right! The box also says '200 Detailed Locations'  That's amazing since the entire game only takes up about 650MB.
so why bother putting it on a DVD?) It turns out that all of the examine closer screens  constitute towards the 200 detailed locations.
really pushes the limits on truth in advertising)

The bottom line here (NPI) though is that I encourage you Steve, as well as all of our intelligent followers of the AG community to play and finish this game as you will be treated to a unique experience that reflects how far the standards have been lowered in our beloved niche.

Enjoy!

Presumably only the examine closer screens are detailed locations?   [smiley=boggled.gif]

I would continue playing Art of Murder. Just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean you should stop playing the game. The best judge is yourself. I don't know why people don't rate this game but are prepared to give an A for average games like Nancy Drew.

Well, i found what the deal was with the items i mentioned above, am now stuck with a wino in an abandoned house desperately trying to find a way to get him to pass me some information he can't remember..

This game is just ok so far, typical of most games in the last 3 years with beautifully rendered but static backgrounds and an awkwardly moving main character. Too early for me to make anything of the plot but voice acting sounds like it was actually parceled out to a real studio, you CAN tell when trained actors are reading the lines!

I know.

It's completely shocking that people might have different opinions from yours  :

I am gradually getting there, some screens are like those 'find the object 'casual games though, a bit of a pixel hunt..
