Deleted UserIs Karla Munger earning big money for reviewing those lousy buy-online-games and thus giving them raving credits?

Otherwise I do not understand.

That's why I've placed this topic in the hotspot.

But when I read the reviews then all those games are 'A+' games.
Build-a-lot is a much-needed breath of fresh air in the casual game market. Its graphics, animation, music and sound-effects are all first-rate, and its challenges -- even the more difficult ones -- are fair

and

Ravenhurst boasts effectively creepy music, eerie background sounds, gorgeous graphics and a little humor thrown in for good measure. It's absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

So what are you waiting for, people? Get this game, and right now! I'm not gonna tell you again!!

and

That having been said, however, I do recommend Hometown Hero. Its innovations greatly outweigh its frustrations and definitely make it a worthwhile purchase.  If you approach the game with realistic expectations, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

For a lousy 'Burger game'

I seriously wonder that if Ray, Randy or Aya reviewed these games, the outcome would have been the same high praising.
I doubt that!

Uh, dude? There are no scores on them so I don't know where you get that A+ from. I don't think Karla is assigned reviews, she plays games and when she finds some she really likes, she goes ahead and reviews them in order to point out games worth trying.  Casual games don't come up on the list of games Randy needs reviewed. Considering portals like Big Fish release a new game EVERY DAY, I think Karla provides a service to gamers by pointing out those that she enjoys.

Considering she runs the Jave all by herself and does customized backgrounds for each one to make them look nice for visitors for no other reason than that she enjoys it, there is no reason for you ripping on her in Hot Topic other than the sole purpose of trying to get a rise out of people.

Ravenhurst is a great game, standing out in a genre (find-the-hidden-object)  that boasts millions of devoted fans among casual gamers. Have you actually tried any of these games or do you simply assume that they don't deserve praise because they didn't cost 3 million dollars to make?

Who are we fooling? We're talking about a $ 20,- game!!! No freeware. Come on nik2008ofs!

That's a price for a company who should've spend 3 million in developing.
But they didn't obviously.

Same goes for Ravenhurst.

There are many of those find-the-hidden-object games. Nice to try (have tried this one also), but absolutly not worth the $ 20,- if you compare that with great games. Sam and Max episodes for instance.

It's just a rip-off, IMHO.

And absolutly no:

The intended audience of most of these games wouldn't touch a hardcore adventure or RPG game (including the Sam and Max episodes) with a ten-foot pole. JustAdventure+ has decided many years ago that they aren't a site addressed to purists, and added the + in the title to reflect that. Pricing very rarely figures in the verdict of any review in any medium, unless it is truly exorbitant. Besides, if the Mystery Case games didn't consistently sell there wouldn't be a sequel every 3 months, so obviously the people who enjoy them don't find them overpriced. If you do, simply don't buy them, where's the problem?

These reviews simply aren't meant for hardcore gamers, nor is there any reason why they should since the games aren't meant for hardcore gamers.

Most the sales of those games are in the $6.99-$9.99 range, not $20, as most customers belong to those game clubs.  Also, the Sam & Max games are in the 1-3 hours of playtime, much of which is downtime trying to figure out the puzzles. Those casual games can run anywhere from 2-7 hours and it's a very busy 2-7 hours at that. The reason they keep putting out those hidden object games is because they sell, just like the match 3 games used to sell.

Come on Ivinia, those reviewed games are $ 19,95!!! And that's much closer to $20,- then what you're saying.

That's were terrific storyline, great graphics, voice acting, humor, real adventure, music, atmosphere etc etc come in.

All these elements are NOT in the Karla Munger games.

If you read the Metacretics, you should understand that that's value for money.
(by the way: tip for invinia: buy the whole season pack of Sam and Max, for less then twice a casual Karla Munger game! Well that's value for money!!!)

Those casual games can run anywhere from 2-7 hours and it's a very busy 2-7 hours at that. The reason they keep putting out those hidden object games is because they sell, just like the match 3 games used to sell.

You're right: these are casual games. No problem with that. Some people like them, some don't.

Only; don't write raving reviews about them, because they're not raving.

Next time write 'advertisement' above these "BUY ME NOW" stories instead of 'review', simply because I respect the reviews from the other JA+ reviewers highly and depend my buywillingness (?) on them.
Read Metacretics and see that sometimes the average figure of a good adventure is lower because of the normally critical review of JA+ (Jack Cane)
JA+ is as critical as they should be.

But this degrades JA+!

And that's that.

I leave it with that. Understand that some of you, and at least all repliers, don't agree with me. Why is that?
Do you all know something I don't know. Are you all into this???

But you all couldn't convince me otherwise. I still think that those Carla Munger reviews aren't real reviews but simply advertisements. Simply because those games are terrible, sometimes even in their genre!

So what you're saying, Sir Funk, is that because somebody likes a game that you don't, they must be getting paid to promote it?  I think you're really off base, and I don't feel Karla deserves to be attacked like that.  Personally, I like her enthusiasm.

She is not liking a game, Lady. She's trying to convince me to buy the game. Or better: she is demanding me to buy it!

And that's strange for such lousy games.

I simply can't understand why those 'reviews' are placed on the highly respected JA+ Homepage!

Anyways, read all my replies above. I've said it all, I've made my point.

You all didn't convince me and I didn't convince you.

And that's ok with me.

I don't see why you're so upset over these reviews, Sir Funk. It seems clear that you don't play casual games, so you probably don't know that their production values are low than what you are used to - though they're also produced in much shorter time.

I do agree that Karla's reviews seem overly positive and not informative enough, but to go as far as blaming them for being advertisements - that's just rude.

It's possible that Sir Funky is unimpressed with the games his gorgeous little girl is spending her time on.

well, we generally don't make this public, but for each casual game that Karla gives a glowing grade to, she gets a free, all expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world.

I also receive free automobiles, HDTVs, high-end gaming rigs, etc. for allowing the reviews to be posted.  It has become a very lucrative side business and we are considering opening a new site, 'Just Glowing Reviews of Casual Games That Give You That Warm Fuzzy Feeling' (or JGRCGTGYTWFF) for short.

BTW Randy, I really enjoyed the party you threw aboard the new JA+ yacht. She's even more luxurious and much bigger than the last one. I especially appreciated the diamond encrusted AG party favors, the world-class gourmet food, all the free champagne, and the private jet. Please convey my thanks to the entire crew and your personal entourage for making it a truly memorable weekend.

Cheers, Terry

My apologies!  We will have the JA private jet (you know, the one we got from Strategy First for giving Culpa Innata a good grade).  The jet will then fly you to our private JA Adventure Island (you know, the island Got Game Entertainment gave us for the Lost Crown review).

You may have to be careful on the island though as I hear The Adventure Company has planted some deadly traps after the negative reviews JA gave to Cleopatra and The Experiment.  In return, as we don't want to see any of our guests get hurt, we have promised to give Dracula Origin an A+++.

Btw, in order to participate in all of these frivolities, you do have to (beware upcoming subliminal message) - purchase at least one $20 game from either the JA Casual Store, the JA Online store or our upcoming JA Downloadable store.

Could you make a detour to Greece to pick me up? It would be a good opportunity for you to inspect the villa in Mykonos that Atropos Studios got you for the Diamonds in the Rough review (being an indie developer, that's all they could afford, good of you to accept such substandard [s]bribes[/s] donations).

Also, it is never too late to give Playboy: The Mansion a richly deserved triple A grade, that way we could have a few bunnies along for [s]  a [/s]  the ride.

Deleted UserHouston, we have a problem.

Although Randy tries to ridicule this topic and several members join in hastely, I do think we have a big problem.

Please read the latest review of Ryan Casey: The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes

Just another search-and-find-object-57-mb-download-game for a wopping $19,95!!!

And what's the rating of this game?

an A???

with a final line as:  Hurry up and buy your copy now - the game’s afoot!???

What about:

-Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile
-Agatha Christie: Peril at End House
-The Count of Monte Cristo

All the same kind of 'search, find and hurry uppah' games for a crazy $ 20,-.

I can't wait for these reviews!!!
They can't be as good as 'The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes' or can they?

In short: what's happened with the critical and always reliable JA+?

These reviews are crap! And I am mad!

I am a member for serveral years now (took over the membership of my late father, sir Funkenstein sr.) but these reviews downgrate this 'adventure plus' site big time!

How can JA+ give this game an 'A' and other, far better games (what about most of the 'Broken Sword' games) less grades?

Please kick these 'advertisement/reviews' in the 'Members' Adventure Game Reviews' or better: the other game section of JA forum, where they belong.

Or name this site CG+ instead of JA+.
These games are being produced in a week by the dozen with all equal high or low quality standards!!!

Otherwise I do not understand.

8-)

Hey another BIG TITLE: The lost Tomb

Have funnah.

(I didn't want to reply after my last mail, but the very-bad-so-called-review of Sherlock and this 'hurry-let's-make-fun-of-this-topic-so-they-won't-be-wondering-themselfs' contribution by Randy, made me decide otherwise: They both proved me right)

I don't care for casual games either. So when a review comes out I don't read it. I dislike action-adventures or RPGs so when a review comes out I don't bother with it. I'm not interested in the society pages of the newspaper so I ignore them. There are ads almost everywhere I look but I manage to ignore the ones that don't interest me.

I'm okay with all these things, though because I realise there are people that do enjoy them.

I don't buy download-only games. Never have, never will........Mike

For the record, I don't appreciate my review being called crap, nor a "very-bad-so-called-review." Casual games, at least as far as I know, are in a different field than regular adventure games. As a casual game, it gets an A. I am not saying it is of the same merit as Myst, I am saying as a casual game, it is of very good quality.

Oh, and don't worry, I already wrote the review for Agatha Christie: Peril at End House. And that ... oops, that got an A, too. What a piece of crap. I should make sure that review gets pulled ASAP ...

Ryan, you should feel a lot better when you get your new, fully tricked-out Lamborghini Galardo Spyder, custom-designed for JA casual game reviewers.

I got mine last week and I love it. Thanks, Randy!
