PC Gaming won't die... if anything, MMORPG's won't let that happen.

Consoles are becoming more PC-esque as it is, and there may even be a point in the (near) future where the line between the two become blurred.  I think they'll always be separate forms, but they'll definitely become very close to looking and smelling like each other.

I grew up on consoles and still like to play my PS3/Wii/DS every so often.  The console-only games see to that.

For me though, with gaming nothing, NOTHING beats playing in my office, lights off, backlit keyboard, wireless mouse, 5.1 surround headphones and 21" monitor.

Playing: Skyrim: Dragonborn/Dawnguard; Torchlight 2; To The Moon; Far Cry 3

Finished: HomeFront; Far Cry 3; Dishonored

Always Playing: Half Life 2

Looking Forward To: BioShock: Infinite

Reading: BioShock: Rapture; SW: Revan

I agree with you. I don't like consoles either although I desperately want to play 'Heavy Rain' on a PS3

Deleted UserI also prefer playing games on the pc as it is a more up close and personal experience. Also, I just can't get used to a controller. Give me a keyboard and mouse any day.

I guess it's just what you're used to. I'm at a complete loss when trying to use a controller. With a keyboard and mouse, I'm right at home. I've played RE4, Dead Space and now BAA with the keyboard and mouse without any problems at all. With a controller, I'd be all thumbs. Happy Gaming.

Well, to tell you the truth when I first bought a gamepad, I had an enormous difficulty in managing this thumb-f**k mess but after sometime everything came in place. Actually I have the impression that not all games must be played with a gamepad. For example Half-Life 2 and its episodes; so much better with m/k.

I agree and would probably get used to using a controller also. I just don't want to go through the pain of learning when I have no problem with the k/m. IMHO, those that complain about a pc game having horrid m/k control are most likely console gamers or pc gamers that normally use a gamepad. However, that's just my opinion. Just go with what you are comfortable with. Happy Gaming.

Probably PS3, for Daemon soul, Metal gear solid & Little big planet, but overall there are not a whole lot of games released on consoles only that I'm very interested in. Still, if anyone offered me a PS3, I would not say no (bummer about the horrible PS3 gamepad, I really dislike the shoulder buttons. Overall I find the 360 gamepad to be a lot more comfortable)

I am an ex-pc gamer. I am also an ex amiga, mac and C128 gamer.

Oh and an ex ps2 gamer.

I have 360 games - 172 of them adventure games on my PC. Why quit? I like my Nintendo Dsi XL now. All my games play on it and I love the interactive screen.

Not all platforms are for all people - but for me games like "The last Window" on my Dsi XL are the ultimate gaming experience.

What are some of the things that drove me away:

1) PC Adventure games got/are very are to find in retail stores. I recall driving 40 miles to pick up a copy of a game in a retail store.

2) I would get booed on this board when I'd post positive comments about my game i just bought after driving 40 miles to get it. People would say "That game is terrible, adventure games today are horrible compared to games published years ago.

3) Not all games would run on my PC and stores now refuse to take them back. I sold a few games to half-price books at a huge loss when I tried everything to get them to run and nothing worked.

All this is the past now - Nintendo DS adventure games get glowing reviews and always run perfectly. Problem solved.

Don't they dumb down shooters for the console since pads can't deliver the fine aim that mouse-keyboards do?

Yes, the lack of control is a very irritating aspect of controllers.  I've been switching to and fro between my keyboard /mouse and Xbox360 controller for PC a lot lately, so I can get more distance from the screen and/or hold the controller in my lap due to sore shoulders etc.  The worst game for this seems to be Fallout new Vegas.  Not only is aiming and shooting a pain, even just running around is more of a hassle when using the controller, not to mention switching between menus or doing special actions like jumping, targeting with VATS and so on.

Controllers seem to be best with side-scrolling platformers - which is probably why the latter type of game is so prolific with consoles.  Controllers and 3-D seem to go less well together.

PS. I think the 360 controller is pretty badly designed.  Trying to reach all the buttons at once is a little uncomfortable. It would be a much more comfortable reach regarding the if the top surface of the device was concave, or if the little side handholds were curved a little bit out at the bottom, or if the LS/LT and RS/RT buttons were a bit more to the side.
On the other hand, (no pun intended) I suppose designers of controllers have the problem that kids and adult and people of all sizes hands use the same device, so people with huge hands and people with tiny hands both sit with a bit of a compromise.

Since I own and sometimes play on a PS2, I must say I didn't notice all that much difference between the 2 controllers, btw.
So has the PS3 controller changed from the PS2?

Yeah, there are a lot m ore exclusives for PS3 than Xbox.... But 360 is cheaper... It's like choosing between Nazis and Commies.. Well, capitalists, to be precise...

Yes, the shoulder buttons (L2 & R2) now slope down when you push them, and my fingers tends to slide off the buttons. Apart from that, the controllers are, as far as I can tell, identical.

I like the weight of the 360 controller. It just makes it feel comfortable to hold, and my fingers don't glide off any buttons. Overall I prefer the gamecube controller though (though it is slightly too small for my hands, and it feels a bit light).

Don't they dumb down shooters for the console since pads can't deliver the fine aim that mouse-keyboards do?

Yes. Overall there is far less 3d movement in console shooter, more action is focused around ground level. Also, the auto aiming is a pain to deal with (I remember the good old days of Quake 1, where the first thing you would do was to turn off auto aim. sv_aim 1, a command that will forever be engraved in my mind. Same is true for +mlook and sensitivity "high number" and the start command - listen 16)

To me, that Xbox controller is utterly impractical.

Now I'm tempted to reinstall quake, and see if there still are any servers up and running.

About what controllers works for people, it might have to do with hand size, plan and simple. My hands are 19cm, from the tip of my middle finger to my wrist. Does the people who like the 360 controller have hands roughly my size?

In the comments section someone stated that developers generally receive around 80% of the retail price as profit whereas with games sold on the console platforms their profit margin is just a measly 10%. True?

From what I've heard, the only difference (for the publisher & developer) between releasing a PC and a console game is the money that they have to pay Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft, and this cost is roughly the same as the price difference between a PC and a console game (so for a new console game, Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft will take just under 15€). The rest of the money is divided between retailer/publisher/developer as usual.
