Hi fellow gamers
I am trying to run an older, but not too old game, Legend of Lotus Spring, designed for up to Windows 2000, it is made by Dreamcatcher but they no longer support it, so sorry......grrr

anyway, it is a beautiful game, with wonderful visuals of Ancient China and a full re creation of a historic and destroyed, and lost forever Garden that was built at the Forbidden City in Peking, and was destroyed by the Britich Army when they burned the Summer Palace.

The game loads fine, it is on CD, and i installed the older version of Quick Time you need, and then i get a error messags that says:

This Game Requires 3 mg of Free Virtual Memory to run, and the game wont run.

I have an AMD 3400 System, that runs at 2/6 ghz, with 2.5 GB of RAM, 4000 Gb of Hard Drive memory and an Audity 2ZS Snd Card, and a 6600 GT FX Vid card,

i seem to remember encoutering similar error messages with some mid to older games but dont know how to circumvent this one, can anyone help me out, re the virtual memory and what that is and how i can adjust for it?

I am running the game in compatability mode for Wind 98 SE .....but have not delved into the detailed settings for such a mode yet.  any help much much appreciated.

thanks

ah ha, finally after much study,  i figured it out, this is an error that occurs with the minimum level of the page file setting, it was set too low by default, 2 something and you have to go into the
My Computer>Advanced>Performance area and set the minimum page file at 384, then it works,

had to delete all the newer versions of Quick time too, to get it to run but it is a lovely game, reminds me of the orginal Myst, same hypercard and slide show with some animations pathway, but it is a
authentic recreation of a lost garden and you get to see some really lovely recreations of famous and now lost chinese art, furnishings and intricate interiors,

In general it's best to set the size of the Page File to System Managed Size.

What?

Thanks, can you tell me where i would find the System Managed size indicated?  I saw that there was  setting for minimum and maximum and changing the minimum to 384 worked for this game, but then i had to reset to return to modern games....as it was too small.

thanks for any info on this, as it has come up with Independence War I previously and was solved the same way but not perfectly so i would love to know more about this if you have time. thanks again..

Control Panel, System - From the Advanced Tab (in the performance section) click Settings. Select the Advanced Tab again and click Change in the Virtual Memory section.

If you ever add additional memory to the PC this setting will allow Windows to automatically adjust the virtual memory settings for you - otherwise you'd have to do it manually, which is something that most folks never bother to do.

I'm assuming you're running Windows XP -

What?

I see that you got Independence War 1 to run on XP by setting the Virtual Memory minimum page file to 384. Congrats! I, too, have Independence War 1, and I've been trying to get it to run in my laptop's Win XP back in Nov. or Dec. of 2007, but I had no luck in getting it to even start up, let alone run. This was after I've set both of my laptop's virtual memory's initial size and maximum size to 500 mb. How did Independence War perform for you? I'm curious. P.S. My laptop has 1 gig of RAM, Windows XP Home SP 2.

Hi K515

ys indeed i was lucky enough to finally get it to run, it was ok, there was some slowness in some parts of the game that I tried, i did not get very far into the game as i had so many other games to review at the time, I really just wanted to look at it to see how it differed from IWAR II which I had looked at before.

IWar I is a superior game to II i think, it looked pretty interesting. I can't swear that it will work fully well, as i had some trouble with the initial "tutorial "section, but it was running ok.

It is an interesting series those two games, somewhat a spin off from Wing Commander Privateer but more story line and some nice characters. I was running it on an AMD 3300 with 2.6 Ghz, 2.5 mb RAM,
and an FX 6600GT and Audigy 2ZS.....  I got the suggested figure for the Page File size from some old forums posts for the original game forum, had to really dig for them, as the tides of time had moved on quickly from this release, but it did work.
