Well that makes two of us - anyone have any hands on experience with this game?

What?

The demo plunges players right into the thick of the 18th century 3D action. Playing as investigator Amadeo Finvinero, sent by the king to an island off the English coast following an inexplicable murder, you'll need to "chase suspects through the forest, free yourself from deadly traps and outfox some of the bad guys", among some of the demo's various activities.

This quote from the download site pretty much tells me all I need to know to avoid this "adventure" game like the plague!  Too much action for my tastes...

Did you try the Demo? I have finished the game and there is no "action" in it. However one must note that this game is totally keyboard controlled.

Give the demo a try to see if you like the controls before stating it is a "plague"

Missed your post but found it on FileFront.

I rather liked it despite many having issues with the controls - which I don't understand why. It took less than 5 minutes to get used to it. Pretty mysterious and seemed atmospheric, although I hope those bugs with the inventory only exist in the demo. For example I had picked up the paper, book, potion, and candles in the ship, went outside, then back in and those items were there again ready for me to pick up a second time despite them already being in my inventory.  I smell a patch coming.

I'll have to add this one to my wish list.

I'm actually enjoying this game very much.  It is keyboard controlled, but I don't have a problem with that.  It reminds me very much of a solid, B movie.  Very atmospheric.   And I have not run across any 'action' sequences.

Well, I was itching for an AG to play over here and it was a toss up between Penumbra and Dead Reefs. The episodic/shortness of Penumbra and the enjoyable Dead Reefs demo made it an easy choice.

Dead Reefs it was.

Played it, finished it, loved it. The ending was a bit flawed though. Apparently the some symbols you are supposed to use are NOT the ones that you actually do use, which had me using a walkthrough at the end of the game and scratching my head over it. I did run into some weird glitch with being able to exit a screen and had to cntrl/alt/delete to get out of the game. I restarted it (thankfully I had saved just prior to what I had done) and that glitch wasn't there.

All in all, I could easily recommend Dead Reefs. The controls were actually quite easy.

I'm heading out today on other business, but I think I'll pick up a copy for the weekend. The atmosphere is right up my alley.

Does the game support 16:9 resolutions?

Edit -

Picked up and installed - I have to agree, the controls are quite simple to master.  I'm enjoying this quite a bit.

What?

That was my only real problem with it. For some odd reason the ESC key stopped functioning when I was in that puzzle. Very strange. After getting out of the game, then reloading it, it worked just fine and ESC did take me out of it.

Is anyone else having an issue with the installer for the game - two separate PC's and both just sit or at least 30 minutes before the game actually installs...

What?

Deleted UserHoping to see a review from JA review staff.  Someone wrote a somewhat extensive review at Amazon.
I don't know how to create a link, but the URL is below.  Anyone who had already played this game might want to comment and hopefully make us all feel better.

I thought I read somewhere that there was a problem with the progress bar -- either it didn't work or there wasn't one.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall the same.  It completely locked up the laptop however; I may have to exchange it for another disc.  I had an issue with another DC/TAC disc a month or so ago, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I'm having lots of problems with bugs in this game. Sometimes a trigger just doesn't work and I spend ages walking around trying to find a way to progress or a door that will take me somewhere else, to no avail. The next time I load (an older) savegame, it will work fine. Sometimes the character gets in a loop - if you try to go somewhere you can't go (yet) he will make a statement and turn around - but sometimes that turning around steers him right back where he didn't want to go, making him repeat his statement over and over again until you finally manage to steer him away. Sometimes when the game wants you to go left, and you stubbornly decide to go right to explore there first, the game just hangs. You can't use ALT-TAB or CTRL-ALT-DEL when this happens (you can when the game runs fine) so a reboot is the only solution. It seems this game has not gone through beta-testing at all, or perhaps they only used beta-testers who were already very very familiar to the game and who never once tried to leave the "proper path", as any true beta-tester would. I think I'll put this game back on the shelf and wait for a patch. It's virtually unplayable as it is now.

You're not using a walkthrough are you?

As to your other comments - yep... I've run into them as well.  Still, it's an enjoyable way to blow a weekend - I guess my only gripe is the lack of a gamma control.  I understand why it's dark, but when you're standing right next to a door and can't see it - it's too dark.

Other than that - it's fun... It reminds me of Edward Carnby's romp through the manor of Derceto.

What?

I did use a walkthrough to find out how the **** I was supposed to enter the fire place, after I had been hearing "It's too dark, I don't want to break my neck" for about a thousand times and not being able to use the lamp in any way. I even thought I had missed something important along the way and tried to walk back down the stairs - not a smart idea as it locked up my game. So yeah, I used a walkthrough.

That's where I found out there should have been an action-icon at the fire place, which never showed up for me. So I have to go back to an older save-game and try again, in the hope that it will trigger this time. But I don't know if I will, I don't feel like playing this game anymore.

You can display the hot spots in any area (which is how I found out how to enter the fireplace -- Hit X and pan with the arrow keys).  I ran into the lockups (all on the laptop running Vista).  Give it a day or two and go back to it, it’s a decent game (most of the time).

The lockups I encountered seemed to be related to the video driver (I’m running a modified driver so I can do all the things Sony wont let me do – I’ve never understood why NVIDIA won’t [s]develop[/s] release GeForce GO drivers).

What?

I only used a walkthrough at the very end because what I thought I was supposed to be doing turned out to be something completely different. The walkthrough (Thank you GameBoomers!) even said that depending on which version you had, the correct solution might be combination B instead of A. Go figure!

Wasn't the game panned at four chicks(fat)?  For some reason for forum wouldn't let me type in the name in order.

There's a little history behind that one - don't ask...

I have finished the game, and I must say that there are some nasty bugs and glitches, some affect the gameplay as well since the game is so linear. If you do not follow "proper progress procedure" the game engine produces faults.

Also, note that there is a huge bug on the end puzzle, you have two hints for it (I am speaking about the runes) but the correct solution is...different from the hints provided!

The company has admitted that this is a bug and they promised to fix it with a patch.
