The JA Online Store (http://www.justadventure.com/BuyGamesJA.shtm) is excited to announce that we have reduced our International shipping rates on orders of more than 1 game.

OLD Rate: $8.00 per game ordered

NEW Rate: $8.00 for the first game ordered, $4.00 for each additional game ordered at the same time.

Purchase 2 games, save $4.00 off our old rate. Purchase 5 games, save $16.00 off our old rate! All orders are still shipped via US Air Mail.

Our US and Canadian rates remain at $4.00 per order.

Thanks!

That's awesome! Though it means I'll have to wait more time to order my games so they'll be cheaper...

Excellent! This has lowered the threshold of ordering through JA-Store considerably for me.

Beta-tester of 'The Path', 'Rhiannon', 'Scratches', 'Hope Springs Eternal', 'Time Stand Still', 'Frasse and the Peas of Kejick', '1893: A World's Fair Mystery', 'Carte Blanche' and 'Oakhaven Plantation' a.o.&&

Sweet!  I just ordered the Larry collection and it's out of stock.  As it's not been sent yet, can I add another Sierra collection?
I'll email you.

Hmmm.. why should I have to pay extra shipping costs for multiple items at all? Costs don't really differ whether I sent 1 or 5 DVD-cased-games. I expect that multiple games are sent as one package, so the there wouldn't be higher costs involved.

I must be missing something here, otherwise it looks like a cheap way to make some extra money, which is not something I expect from JA...

Shipping & handling (or P&P here in Blighty!) takes account of the weight and size of the package together with overheads to actually process the order. 1st off, more units [usually] take more packing materials be that larger Jiffy bags, boxes or whatever. Secondly shipping is weight driven and the charge corresponds directly to the entire package being shipped. You could argue that they should charge by exact weight and add a flat rate handling fee but then it would probably take more time/effort which would be passed on to the customer in the form of a higher flat rate (don't forget it's a business!).

The JA store isn't run by JA but an external company with JA benefitting from generally keen prices and a considerable stock of adventure games (probably larger than any other outlet I know of save Amazon).

Essentially what Reckless said is true. Air Mail shipping is based entirely on weight. Shipping 2 games costs more than shipping one game. Shipping 5 games, costs a lot more than shipping 1 game. Any package between 8 and 12 ounces, which is what most boxed adventure games weigh with packaging, costs us $7.95 to send to Europe and $8.85 to send to Australia/New Zealand. You can see the huge profit machine at work can't you?

Many more games are coming out now in DVD cases and jewel cases and that is one of the reasons why we reduced our shipping fees. But, not all games come in DVD cases, and if Dreamcatcher has the brilliant idea of including a paperback book in the new Agatha Christie game once again, we'll ship it out at the same rate as a DVD case, most likely at a loss.

The old shipping rate was more, the new shipping rate is less. Nobody's getting rich here, just trying to keep the adventure genre as alive as possible.

That's great to hear, Interact! I'll definitely be looking into buying some games at the JA store now, especially those that haven't gotten a European release (yet).  8-)

Quick question though, how come Scratches is listed as being shipped in a jewel case? No box anymore?
Sounds like a budget rerelease, but the price is still $20.  :-/

Also, I've read that Aspyr will be rereleasing The Longest Journey on a dvd. Have you heard anything about that one? Will the JA store sell this one? Would love to have this one, as I still don't have an English release of this game, and this one definitely sounds like the one to go for.

Sounds fair; you have to cover the costs somehow. You could argue though that a per-order rate is more friendly towards customers. In general, I'm very pleased with internet companies that don't charge shipping costs, or have one single rate, regardless of the amount of bought items.

But, the new 'discount' rate is at least a lot better than 8 USD per item... Keep up the business!

I haven't heard that, but hopefully it's true. If so, we'll definitely have it. Speaking of Aspyr, they just dropped the price on Dreamfall from $39.95 to $29.95.

As far as Scratches goes, we're able to order it either way, so if you want the box, just put a note in the comments field when you order.

I read it on adventuregamers. Maybe you can check with Aspyr (having better connections and all
). Could be an interesting release really.
Oh, and Dreamfall is one I already did buy, right after it was released.

Cool!  8-) I'll keep it in mind. I first have to look into the whole Paypall thing though, still all new to me.

You don't need to have or use PayPal to use the store. When you "Checkout" you can click on:

Don't have a PayPal account? Click here

That will take you to a standard credit card checkout page like you're used to with any online merchant.

Ah yes, but then you need a credit card for that, lol.
Think that'll take even more time to get sorted out.
But I should get me a paypall account, the ebay markets look greener on the other side as well.

Hehehe... it's very European not to have a credit card, but I'm not so sure Americans are aware of that.  I only got mine just to buy adventures games online. How crazy can you get...  :
I now also buy books, CDs and such with my credit card, unless the seller is Dutch. Never need to use it for anything in real life. I prefer bank cards and cash for that, much cheaper too.

Yes, indeed, I don't need a credit card in real life either. Still prefer the old fashioned paying with cash as well, and when necessary, I have my bank card.
Still, like you say, for some international purchases, it does come in handy as there are some adventures/books/dvds not available over here.

The version that we are now shipping is the DVD version from Aspyr. Same low price - $12.95.

I ´have just bought the first 'the longest journey' on DVD at my local EB Games store.
It is really nice, especially since the game now can be played on Windows XP
