Status : Online | You know my answer. : For anyone not wanting to cross-read threads: Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth Because it was a real adventure, not a "strange puzzle game" like Gobliins.
Regarding your question for games which are similar to them: Humans series (I think this is older than Gobliins, anyway) Lost Vikings
Ok, if I count the former I should almost count Lemmings, too.
playing: Destination Treasure Island (done in two sittings, but it's nice), Syberia (ho-hum), Dracula: Last Sanctuary (on hold)&&reading: even more study papers&&listening to: this and that, plus Musicovery&&TV favorites: (currently) Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Journeyman (cancelled! grrr...), Heroes&& all-time) 24, Stargate SG1, X-Files, Lost, House

Status : Online | Great games although very quirky which put a lot of people off. Woodruff has to be one of the most challenging adventures ever made - simply mad

Status : Online | I came into a copy of Woodruff recently. We made very little attempt to actually SOLVE it, choosing to go quickly by hints. It's still hilarious and ages very well. (This is part of why I tend to prefer 2d over 3d. 'cutting edge' graphics look like crap a year later.)

This is very true. 3d graphics depend very heavily on the graphic cards that are availible at the time of reliese and graphic cards are continuly being upgraded so every time a new card comes out ether the game no longer runs or looks terible. I don't think this will ever change as so far it has been this way ever since 3d first became availible. They always try to make the cards downword compatable but it never seems to work that well. 2D is much more reliable if you want a game that can be played for a long time after it's reliese. About 80% of the time when a game doesn't run it's the graphic card or it's drivers that are at fault.

On the subject of similar games, Ween: The Prophecy is a first-person CV game, but it has dozens of bizarre creatures that remind me of some of the monsters in the Goblins games -- like little mothlike creatures that eat gold and a "vampire" that turns out to be a bat that eats fruit.

Interesting insight. Can you refresh my memory about the specific parts you mean?

In Tamer Saga, there are many cute pets that you can buy as your companion, and accompany you to fight against monsters and enemies.

I really liked the interaction between the characters involved in the puzzles, which they removed in Goblins 3. The kind of thinking required in these games is sadly pretty much gone from today's games.
