Hi folks!

Before my sisters fled to college, we used to race each other to see who could beat an adventure game the fastest. We'd get bargain bin games or download some abandonware or replay an old classic, boot up the game at the same time, and go at it. We never took it really seriously, so if you needed a hint you just had to sneak into the other person's room and see what they're up to w/out them noticing. If all of us got really stuck, we'd call a time out and look it up (the marble puzzle in shivers comes to mind  :
). Has anyone else tried this out? I have cameron files:loch ness, riddle of the sphinx, and mystery of the nautalus sitting on my desk waiting for summer vacation   (oh, and a boatload of CD-Rs and cloneCD
)

Try it out, go to Electronics Boutique, find some random 5-15 dollar bargain (make sure you have enough CD-Rs), grab a friend/family member (the more the merrier) and a few computers. Burn enough CDs for everyone and race! Tell me what you think!

Yea it's very fun.  My freshman year in the dorms at college, about four dormmates and I did that.  We play TLJ and Escape from Monkey Island.  We didn't start at same time but we timed them approximately.  It took one of my friends over two weeks for TLJ and I did it in less than a week. He finished first because I started after him.  It would be fun to start at exactly the same time and go straight through.  But I can't sit at the comp that long.

Good topic too

I'm sorry, but adventure game racing doesn't sound like any fun at all to me.  Life passes me by too fast for my tastes already.  I get so little time in which to play games, that when I do, goodness... I like to savor the game, like a delicious flavour in my mouth.  I like to breathe in the world, like a fabulous fragrance.  I like to explore every nook and cranny, with childlike wonder in my eyes.  I couldn't care less how long it takes me to finish an adventure, and I would want to savor a game no less playing it for the second, third, fourth (or more-th), time.

So you go on and wait for me at the finish line, I'll be along by 'n' by

justG, I'll be behind you, because it takes me FOREVER to play an adventure game.  If I get stuck, I will allow myself a couple of days thinking before I resort to a walkthrough.  I remember when I played Shivers, it took me a WHOLE WEEK just to get through one puzzle.

Gita and mcb, you're definitely both right.  You have to explore every piece of the game to enjoy it fully and some people take a while for Adventure game.  For me, it was like that I was playing TLJ they happened to be playing too.  I definitely feel that you shouldn't do this "racing" for awesome Adventures because the art of the game would be ruined.  I think what szcax said about getting the cheap Adventures is a better idea than sacrificing, let's say Neverhood or Dark Eye.

Yeah. We'd never consider doing it with the next Lucasarts/Sierra game, but those dreamcatcher games fit the bill as far as game quality and ease on wallet is concerned.
