Despite some flaws and not being a "pure" PC adventure game in the strict, traditional definition of the genre, I gave Sam & Max from Steve Purcell and his team at LucasArts a solid 8 because it was just too fun, wacky and original at the time it came out in 1993 to consider anything less than a classic.
I would love to see more AGs these days in that sort of colorful cartoon style with the same absurd sense of humor to balance the majority of new titles we see with dry, dark, somber, serious themes and semi realistic settings. But most of the funky, over-the-top titles like this today are true action-adventures / platformers for the console systems targeted to a different (and much, much bigger) audience that still knows how to let go and have unabashed childlike fun. To a large degree, we seem to have lost that once magical feeling in PC adventures and that's really a shame.
Cheers, Terry

...not to be confused with Keira Knightley

Also some great movie references and parodies (the Evelyn Mortimer, alias Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard was priceless! ). Also, in general, I liked the puzzles, I think other LucasArts games are much more illogical than this one. Next to that, the voice acting and script writing is just brilliant! Games like Black Mirror and others could take an example to this game! The talent, creativity and know-how of what makes a good game is just in every aspect of this game. 8-) Only downside is the game's length, it's pretty short. Therefore I give it a 9. Absolutely in my top 10 op best adventure games!
