Exactly Michal, exactly! Very obvious indeed.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Status : Online | It's still not logical that John knows about an oldest or an older one as he is not able to tell the ages after the first clue. "The oldest is blonde" should have been said by the father of the three daughters after he notices that John is still puzzled.
But somehow some of us could solve it nevertheless. I guess it wasn't that bad after all.
Another thought: maybe John knows, but he simply forgot about it, thinks a while and then remembers that there was an oldest daughter. he asks his friend for confirmation and is now able to solve the problem. Doesn't that sound reasonable?
In case you might wonder: I didn't type my first reply unusually slow. I just have the habit of opening up several threads at once and then starting to reply to each of them - if I have something to contribute, that is. This was last in the row and therefore I missed many posts during my replying phase. I made the mistake of not checking the particular thread again. It would have saved some unneccessary typing, I'm a lazy guy after all.

In his version John already knew that one daughter was oldest, in which case he didn't need to ask anything else. Don't tell me he could figure everything out but forgot which kids were the twins.

In Rael's version the effect was much stronger as you are at first puzzled how to solve it. This version is banging your head against the solution...you can't miss it that way. There you have, Michal
