Status : Online | It was the "worst" in the series for me, strange how that goes, huh? But by "worst" I really just want to say that the other two were more fun. It's an 8. Some parts in the game had strange, almost non-existent, puzzles. The story was great, of course. And the music among the very best I've ever heard. Actors were decent, only surpassed by the Tex Murphy games (from the little FMV I've played).

I went ahead and gave a perfect 10 to The Beast Within. A Gabriel Knight Mystery.
Although no adventure game to date has been truly perfect, GK2 and a very small number of others came as close as we have seen for the perfect mix of story, setting, characters, dialog, atmosphere, exploration and puzzle solving with very high production values and lots of artistic flair. The interface and other problems of the first game were eliminated in this sequel too, making it much easier to navigate and less frustrating to play.
As a footnote, this is the classic AG title I would most like to see remade using truly photorealistic, cutting-edge 3D graphics and the latest directional surround sound techniques to enhance immersion to a whole new level.
Cheers, Terry

There is no doubt that the actors added to the experience - facial expressions, body language and other innuendos that computer characters just can't emulate. As for the story: romance, werewolves, a mad king - what more can you ask for? Oh, did I happen to mention hunky Gabe and Von Glower? I dare you to find a more charismatic nemesis than the Baron.

Status : Online | I gave it a 9. A great game, with one of the best stories I have seen, and some really good characters. Puzzles weren't too difficult but they were all fun to solve. I remember asking my dad to translate some german to solve a puzzle... Plus it was my first adventure game, which means a lot.
It didn't get a perfect score because of the ending sequence which was too tough after a relatively easy game: first pixel hunting, then dead-ends, then a timed maze and finally a timed sequence.
Other than that one of greatest games I've played.

Yes, the ending was a bit annoying...also, the cuckoo clock was silly. But those minor faults didn't really bother me.

But another great Jane Jensen story, tied into a fascinating bit of history. And to explore Neuschwanstein was a treat.
Also, I'm a sucker for FMV, and here was one of the best examples adventure-wise. Liked the rest of the cast very much. Von Glower, is my favorite adventure villain ever, I think. I've rarely seen a character with that much charisma in a game, let alone a bad guy. (Maybe HE should had Erickson's role instead.)
I give it a 10.

GK2 is one of the best. Wish they'd re-release it with remastered video. Well, one can dream.

One of the only games to truely blow me away! Only the third GK game drew me into its gaming world as well as this one. The story is one of the best one ever written, regardless of genre or medium, the acting was superb, the puzzles were fun, the music is fantastic, and compared to some other FMV games, it offers enough gameplay. One of my all-time favourite games!

Very easy, point-earning system and some bad collages combining FMV and backgrounds (specially in the forrest sequence). The 3D wolves modeling was terrible too. Bad choice. This game gives me a impression that - For every good thing, there's a respective bad aspect. I gave it a 6

The setting was great, especially for someone like me who's visited Ludwig's castles as a kid (I live close to the Bavarian border). The story was exceptionally well done, intruiging and gripping. Wonderful characters; I think Von Glower was one of the most charismatic bad guys I've ever encountered in a game (even though at some point I had the impression he was hitting on poor Gabe ). The final maze took some time to solve; I stopped counting the many many times I did something wrone and got poor Gabriel killed. This game also showed very deep concern for the main characters; the puzzles Grace had to solve were totally in-character, i.e. they were fit for her, being more intellectual than Gabe who, in turn, had to solve more physical, down-to-earth challenges. I really liked that. Having played GK3 before I finally managed to get my hands on GK2, I thought that most of the puzzles were pretty easy in comparison.
