Loved the story, the characters, the puzzles (yes, even that one I didn't mind) and the music. The graphics were okay.
The controls didn't bother me but I did miss out on a few things the first time around because you could move on to the next parts of the game without examining everything, which was a bit annoying (for me - some might find that a plus). Also, I hated Tim Curry's voice but I got used to it. But these were all minor annoyances that, for me, didn't detract from the experience as a whole. It's a great game. One of the only I played 3 times.

Like Chris, I gave Gabriel Knight III: Blood of the Sacred. Blood of the Damned. a rock solid nine with one point deducted specifically for the unnecessary and out-of-place action sequences at the end. Otherwise, the usual complaints did not bother me in the least. I actually loved the control system with that free roaming first person camera option for quickly zooming around the 3D maps to explore. I also enjoyed Tim Curry's nonchalant voice work as Gabe and the corny jokes. Even the admittedly silly cat hair puzzle was okay in my book.
In the end, GK3 is a very fine adventure game with a terrific story by Jane jensen and all sorts of other things to recommend it. The one and only complaint I have beyond the action stuff is that Sierra shut the team down and we never saw a 4th installment in the best AG series ever created.
Cheers, Terry

after getting over the AWFUL control system (thanx to Valerie, who took over! :-*) i finally got to play gk3, and realized what i was missing out on all this time! a fantastic adventure, definately the best of the 3 and one of the best advs created!
You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

| Deleted User | I gave it an 8. Frustrating action sequences and some silly puzzles reduced what could have been a solid 9 or 10. Loved the interface, though.

Le Serpent Rouge -- some the best puzzling ever, with a nice mix of things you had to do.
Absolutely loved the freedom of the controls -- I thought it was the most innovative system I'd seen in an adventure.

In my opinion GK3 had not only one of the greatest puzzles of all time but also a control system that should have become the reference for future games at least to some extent. I'm not saying that it was perfect in itself, but the direction was definitely the right one. It just needed some improvements. But nobody ever tried to recycle that system. I can't understand.
A few puzzles are not too good and the arcade sequences are a bit annoying, but GK3 is still one of my favorites (and I didn't play it a second time as of now...).

Status : Online | I gave it a 6. A huge diappointment... I barely knew what I needed to do half the time, and I kept missing information because half the game had timed sequences that if you missed could not be repeated. I just couldn't follow the plot (the lack of an introduction is one of the causes for this). The game looked bad. Making it 3D just made navigation more annoying, and the backgrounds looked simple and uninteresting. There were very few locations. It was mostly going back and forth from the town to the mountains, trying to find the right way to where I wanted to go, getting hopelessly lost.
And I had trouble with Le Serpent Rouge...
I need to replay this game, maybe then I'll have a different opinion.

Without a doubt my favourite adventure game of all time! Absolutely brilliant story, good 3D graphics, great voice acting (didn't mine Tim Curry at all), tons of great puzzles, long gameplay, challenging, etc etc. I also loved that a lot of information in the game was optional. It gave the game a more realistic feel and made the game feel less linear than it actually was. As for the controls: best ones out there! I loved to control the camera, swooshing through the environments, the fact you could move Gabriel to the other side of the screen fastly with ease. For me these controls felt very intuitively. And the ending of the game! After a number of arcade sequences (which for me got the adrenaline flowing instead being annoying), you were treated to a revealing and satisfying closing cutscene, rounded up by that cliffhanger. It's indeed a tragic thing GK 4 will never see the light of day, but you can't think of a more perfect dramatic ending for the third game.
If it was an option, I'd say this game goes up to 11!

I changed my mind, only when I discussed GK2 in the GK3 poll. Instead put my thread on GK2 poll, I posted it here, in the wrong topic.

I loved the use of the original characters and voices (Moseley cracks me up!) and the puzzles were well thought out too.
Amazingly the puzzle I found to be the hardest was the maid unlocking all the doors (I came out of Gabe's room a little too late) and she had only unlocked a couple of doors. At the time I didn't realise I had to reload the game.
