I hate keyboard controls, kept walking into walls.

Love the game enviroment with the fusion of art styles and a noirish setting to boot. Some of the best music I've ever heard in a game, I still listen to the soundtrack regularly.
And I didn't mind the controls, so definitely it gets a "10".

But some puzzles seriously lack in later stages of the game and, yes...Glottis was sometimes annoying. Good to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks this guy is the funniest thing ever. : Towards the end the puzzles feel more and more artificial.
No qualms about the control system. Maybe a bit about the inventory. It didn't have to be that way. Of course, it did. Direct control all the rage and so on.
Another 8 from me.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

But I did try it once, several years ago when I was over at a friend's place, and she had it running on her machine. This was my first experience with keyboard controlled character movement, which I soon found to be entirely counterintuitive and completely destructive to any chances if becoming immersed in the game world. In spite of spending more time watching the keyboard than the screen I was still having Manny blunder into walls, tables, etc. and the simple mechanics of moving him around were far more a challenge than what little of the game's content I managed to see. After about 45 minutes of total frustration, I gave up, realizing that there was no way that playing this game could be an enjoyable experience.

I'm also not fond of ''people'' in my game either, especially cartoon ones, but I had to make an exception in this one.
Myst IV - Never finished it. Got frustrated with it.&&Myst V - Did not finish it either. Very disappointing.&&ATTWN - BORING!!! Never finished it. Kept falling asleep.&&Paradise - So far .... not so good&&Voyage - Not on my favorite list

I don't like the controls very much cause I'm so used to using the mouse.
As for the storyline, it was perfect. That probably would be a 10 but due to other problems I encountered, that's why the overall vote was a 6.
I loved how the voice actors/actresses sound so realistic which la creme de la creme. That game was so creative comparing to various games. Glottis was sure my favourite character and also the girl at the hotel which was behind the counter. I also liked Manny's scythe.

Excellent reasoning! Let me get this straight...every game you don't remember wasn't good enough to be a 10 and not bad enough to be a 6 (because that's the lowest vote you'll ever give OR you wouldn't be caught playing something worse than 6), therefore you give it an 8...and you only give 7 and 9 if you remember the game and it wasn't quite a 6 and 8 - or 8 and 10, respectively - which means, in the average you equally distribute too low and too high votes for the "forgettable" games... Either that or you just created that sentence a bit shaky. :
@colpet Usually, a 1 is reserved for "utter crap in disgrace of everything in the universe". At least the graphics are directly decent enough to warrant a 2. :

For me, some games are so wonderful, they transcend any problems one might have with them (assuming you can play it, if you can't play it, that's a different story). For me, Grim Fandango is one of those games. I do think it's possibly the greatest adventure game of all time.

I'm sorry, but I wasn't enjoying it enough to even finish it. That has to warrant a '1' from me. However, I would never say that the game was 'utter crap' ([s]unlike some Myst haters that refer to Myst[/s]). GF obviously isn't crap; many people love this game. I just happen not to be one of them.

| Deleted User | Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful game. I've played it twice, and would give it a 10 if not for the control system. Manny kept walking into walls, or around in circles, or was sucked through doors when I just wanted him to run down the hallway. So, a 9 from me.

Fortunately, I had zero problems with the keyboard control scheme in Grim Fandango and never saw any bugs. So on the merit of being one of the most original, funniest, engaging and artfully clever AGs ever produced for the PC, I voted it a perfect 10 - which is very rare.
Cheers, Terry

I forget why I stopped playing a few months back, but if it was due to compatability, I just picked up Microsoft Virtual PC to help me play the older games.
