Deleted UserThe moment of truth has arrived! Those of you who have been around the forums for any length of time know this is one of my pet games, which I mention at any opportunity. I'm a sucker for FMV, and I loved the puzzles, the story and the musical score. I'd give it a 9, if only because I don't feel it quite measures up to the best adventure games out there, but in my opinion it's a moderately neglected gem.
So, what's YOUR opinion?

Good game.   Great story.  The only thing that could have been better was a larger play screen.

Haven't played it. And there it is, staring at me accusingly on my bookshelf. I really should rectify that.

Never played it.
I'm always guessing this in trivia whenever I feel desperate.  :

Deleted UserSorry Fickfack, it's a 6 for me: Waaay too much disk-swapping and running back and forth. Pixel hunting in a pixelated world, in a really small window. The story is interesting and exciting at the beggining, then just drag on and on.

I completed probably about 80% of this game on my old Windows 98 machine before it died.  My new machine is Windows XP, and I find that Dark Side of the Moon will run, with one important exceptions; I cannot get the text to work, and therefore cannot activate the conversation trees, as they are invisible.

Nonetheless, this game has a compelling story that I wish I could have completed.  My only gripes were as mentioned previously, the tiny game screen and the disk-swapping.  The graphics I can forgive on account of the game's age; it must be at least 7 or 8 years old.    This is a game that needs to be re-issued on a DVD, made compatible with Windows XP, and with the window expanded and the graphical quality brought up to the general standard of to-day's releases.  I scored the game an "8" on this poll.

A 6 for me. It is an above average game with a good story and great FMV cutscenes. I played the DVD version, so no disc swapping. I had trouble with orientation, and missed some hotspots which made it a
bit frustrating. There were also stealth/timed portions that I didn't really like.

There IS a DVD version of the game?  Is it compatible with Windows XP?

Not sure. I played it on my XP. I had to download some program that would let me play the game, though.

The Problem of the Disappearing Text doesn't seem related to the operating system. That's what the experts say. I'm no expert... just parroting.

Having said that, I can play the DVD version -- yep, there is one -- on my Win98 machine without problems, but not on my XP computer.

One solution: get virtual pc (free trial 45 days) and install win95.  Parroting again.

Virtual PC?  Is there any chance this would allow me to re-play Amber: Journeys Beyond.  This is a game that apparently even the most sagacious of computer wizards have been unable to run on XP.  This was a great game, and would alone justify the price of whatever Virtual PC is.

7 for me. The disk swapping was annoying, and there were a few hard to see ares which caused me to miss things. Pretty good game overall, though.

Yes, you can play Amber with Virtual PC.  Haven't tried it myself though.

Virtual PC makes it possible to install many diferent operating systems on your XP machine.  Such as Win98, Win95 and DOS. The price is about one hundred dollars, I think.
