It's To Have and Have Not.

Correct!
So it's not Bette Davis, but one Lauren Bacall in her big screen debut. Fantastic performance!  8-) Her career now spans an impressive 62 years.

I've always loved Bacall's movies.  One of my favorites of her later ones is A Foreign Field (1993) with Alex Guiness and Leo McKern, very funny but also touching.

Okay, here's my quote:
"Basically you're saying marriage is just a way of getting out of an embarrassing pause in conversation."

"The definitive icebreaker."

"Where is the fountain that throws up these flowers in a ceaseless outbreak of ecstasy?"

I'm adding another quote from the same movie.  Any guesses?

"How are you doing?"

"You remember the time you started dad's boat and the propeller cut my leg to shreds?"

"Yeah?"

"This is worse."

"Where is the fountain that throws up these flowers in a ceaseless outbreak of ecstasy?"

That's from Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Here is the next one:  "We're gonna give you a fair trial, followed by a first class hanging."

Not sure if that is Spike Lee's best movie, but it has Edward Norton and Philip Seymour Hoffman in it so it can't be all that bad.

25th Hour.

People given up on this thread have they?

Or maybe you need a clue.

The movie was based on an old TV show based on an army base.

To Boldly Go.

To answer the bonus question. The person asking the question has never met the person he's refering to as that person wasn't a member of the crew the first time around.
