Whats the best game you ever found in a bargain bin?

Here is my latest bargain bin treasure story:
Just yesterday, on a completely random whim, I ended up killing time in a mall far from my house after a meeting was canceled on me, so of course, I checked out the local software stores.  Being an avid adventure gamer, the first place I always look is the bargain bin, where I found a copy of Amerzone, for the bargain basement price of $9.99.  Checked out the box, Microids, looked good, so I snatched it up as quickly as I could (as if someone else might beat me to it
, after all, it had only been sitting there for two years!) and promptly purchased it.  Imagine my surprise when I got home, installed it, and Benoit Sokal pops up in the opening credits -- THAT WASN'T ON THE BOX!  Yep, I'd found a bargain bin treasure.  Isn't that a great feeling?   So I ask, whats the best game you've ever found in the bargain bin?

I went to a computer show recently, for the first time in several years.  Normally I ignore the shelves full of games and software, as I usually think they're rubbish.  I had a bit of time to kill this time, however, and couldn't resist; since I've gotten into collecting adventures, I'm now ever-hopeful that I'll find that one gem everyone else has overlooked.

I came away with:

The Last Express
Blade Runner
Inherent Evil: Haunted Hotel

and a couple of other non-adventures, for the extremely appealing price of US$4 each.  The last two are in retail boxes, and in very good condition.  The Last Express is retail-boxed, and shrinkwrapped to boot. I also picked up The Longest Journey for $10, which was really nice.

I go Toonstruck at Toys R Us (complete) for $5. Fable at Eb for $3. Discworld 1 for $7. My friend gave me Blade Runner because he said it was stupid. Oh and probably the cheapest game I bought was King's quest 7 for 1/3 of a penny. Im serious. It came with three other games(earthsiege 2 and pro bass fishing or something like that) which were all together a penny.

Also bought Syberia and longest journey for a dollar........................................just kidding

My standard rule now is that, if I see any Adventure game in a bargain bin eg. $9.99 or so, I buy it 'cause it seems that after stores sell them out, they don't re-order. So, now I have a stack of Dreamcatcher's games waiting to be played (they seem to often be in the bins for $9.99).

I get the impression that stores just don't know what to do with Adventure games- you'll see them filed in different places all over the store. Also, the pricing can be a crack-up. I'm sure a lot of you have seen Myst-Exile for $29.99 or even $39.99 sitting right beside Myst Trilogy for $39.99. (Of course, you can occasionally find Exile for as low as $14.99 at CostCo).

The future ain't what it used to be!

Let's see here...I glued my shoe today, and now it doesn't squeak!  Yes.  Anyway

I got Journeyman 2 for $1, Stpuid Invaders and Rainbow Six together for 50cents, Dragon Lore $1, Max Payne two week after it came out for $15 (this price does not include any coupons), Dark Eye $12, ...There's more but I can't remember them.

I eat food...now,

I'm gonna get beaten around the head with a large trout for this....

But I found a copy of 'Sanitarium' for £5. That's about $7. This was.. last year, I think.

I -could- always make a copy of it for someone here, in exchange for a copy of 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream'. Fair trade? Let me know if interested

My best buy was GK1 for 1.99. I've played that game many times, and sure got my two dollars worth out of it.

When I first started playing adventures I went to CompUSA and in the Bargin Bin was The Dark Eye for $5. They had tons of them and I only bought one because I had never heard of it. I kick myself every time I think about it. I also got Amber for $5 and Dracula Unleashed for $6.

A couple years ago I found a copy of Gabriel Knight 2 (new, retail box) at the local E. B. for 99 cents!  Unfortunately, I gave it to my sister-in-law (I already owned it) and I still don't think she's ever played it!  >
She must be punished... then again, being married to my brother is probably punishment-enough!

 Amerzone was released for PSX?!!

*sigh* Does anyone know of a good resource that lists every game released for every gaming platform ever? A little blurb on the game would be cool too, but at this point, I'm willing to trudge through even a basic text file.  Grr... I hate not knowing what's out for what, or that a different version of a game is available.

Really? Hmm... I thought Babbage's, SoftwareEtc., PlanetX and Funcoland were all GameStop retail properties, and that EB was completely separate. Indeed, IIRC, EB was in direct competition with SoftwareEtc.

Software Etc bought out Walden Software a long time ago.  Then EB bought Software Etc and eventually changed all of their stores to EB.  EB could have sold the name Soft Etc to them I'm not sure.

Anyway, what I basically meant was that EB is just like the others, a software/game store.

I think maybe upto 90% of my collection come from bargain bins, flea-markets, or something like that, so picking a favourite is a bit hard.

But I am very fond of the Myst Exile Digital Press Kit someone sold me at a flea-market for about $5. I guess because it is the kind of stuff I would normally never get my hands on!?!

Anyway, my advice is, allways be on the look out! rare games tend to pop up at the strangest places!

Deleted UserHe he he... I bought Amerzone for $4.99 - that's Canadian dollars. I certainly got $4.99 of value out of that game. I also picked up several Dreamcatcher titles for $9.99.

I found my copy at an Electronics Boutique.  Amazon.com has a few used copies as well, or at least they did a couple weeks ago.  Hope you find one.  A really fun game.

I remember getting Serious Sam I think at CompUsa.  It had been Mismarked $4.99 and was suppose to be $44.99, and we got it for the $4.99 price and we got two copies so it could be played Mulitplayer on the Network.  They were none to happy but it was their fault.
