Antoinette Marceau
The quintessential amateur
sleuth, Antoinette is an athletic tomboy who works as a junior
clerk in the Istanbul offices of the Compagnie Internationale des
Wagons-Lits. Antoinette leads a relatively sedentary life, but
dreams of adventure. She is addicted to stories of true crime and
carries a scrap book of newspaper clippings filled with gruesome
and infamous cases, most of which were solved by the equally infamous
Hercule Poirot, a man she deeply admires.
Hercule Poirot
A man who needs no introduction.
The discerning Belgian sleuth is known throughout England for his
sharp skills as an investigator and his proud, often arrogant demeanour.
Poirot is fascinated with the psychology of murder, and prides
himself on his ability to get inside the head of a killer in order
to beat him at his own game. An unexpected accident aboard the
train will leave Poirot in his most cherished situation: left alone
in his room, he can sit back and ruminate on the diabolical mind
of a murderer.
Count Andrenyi
A handsome aristocrat,
the Count is a Hungarian nobleman who is jealous and fiercely protective
of his wife, the Countess Elena. Both his speech and his dress
are incredibly refined, though his deportment is often not. He
is rather volatile, and must be spoken to with caution.
Countess Andrenyi
The young American wife
of Count Adrenyi. Her beauty and carriage often cause her husband
to fly into jealous rages whenever he feels threatened.
Colonel Arbuthnot
A tall and severe looking
gentleman, Colonel Arbuthnot has a long and distinguished military
career. He is in his mid to late forties, and has been stationed
in India.
Mary Debenham
Always poised, always
efficient, Mary Debenham is extremely intelligent and independent,
and can take care of herself in any situation.
Princess Dragomiroff
The Princess is over
eighty years of age, yet is still sharp as a tack and surprisingly
energetic. Of Romanoff royalty, she is at first cold and impervious,
but beneath it all is warm and sentimental.
Antonio Foscarelli
Foscarelli is an ostentatious
Italian motorcar salesman with a distinctive walk and a broad smile
that reveals his single gold tooth. Though he speaks with an Italian
accent, he has adopted many American slang terms, due to having
spent so much time in the States. He is constantly picking his
teeth.
Cyrus Hardman
Hardman is an American
travelling salesman who peddles typewriter ink ribbons. His flamboyancy
is easily sussed by his loud suits and flashy jewellery. He is
constantly chewing gum. His reasons for travelling on the train
appear, at first, to be benign, yet he harbours a most interesting
secret.
Caroline Hubbard
A stout and pleasant
faced woman, Mrs. Hubbard is an elderly American woman who speaks
in loud, rambling monologues. She loves to talk, and rarely pauses
for breath or to let anyone else get a word in edgewise. One must
go to great lengths to interrupt her.
Hector McQueen
Secretary to Samuel Ratchett.
He is a clean cut American in his early thirties. Hector is the
kind of man who easily betrays his emotions, but more often than
not he is straight forward and despises having to beat around the
bush.
Samuel Ratchett
Ratchett is an American
philanthropist whose appearance suggests a kind of grandfatherly
disposition. His wide smile reveals two rows of perfectly aligned
false teeth, and he comes across as quite a benevolent individual.
Ratchett's gaze, however, may strike others as particularly suspicious.
Dr. Constantine
Dr. Constantine is originally
from Greece. His voice is low and gruff, and he is very quick to
anger if his professional competence is called into question. The
doctor is quick to diagnose any situation, be it medical or not,
and his opinions are known to alienate those who observe him. More
than anything, he wants to assist in the case aboard the train,
whether his deductions are welcome or not.
Greta Ohlsson
A middle-aged Swedish
woman in a plaid blouse and tweed skirt. She has a mass of yellowish-grey
hair unbecomingly arranged in a large bun, wears glasses, and has
a long, mild, amiable face rather like a sheep. She is a trained
nurse in a missionary school near Istanbul, and speaks with a Swedish
accent.
