Nigel Danvers is on the run! Two shadowy agents, Mr.Hare and Mr.Crow, are chasing him across old London town. Nigel is desperate to escape; he flees with documents stolen from The Hadden Corporation. Nigel hacked into their database, to view top-secret plans for advanced ghost-hunting technology. Escaping to the lonely seaside town of Saxton, on England’s east coast, Nigel hopes to hide from his pursuers, as well as his own guilt. Saxton is no ordinary harbour town; it seems to echo with past events, legends and characters. Fascinated, and inspired, by local tales of lost treasure, Nigel makes it his mission to locate Anglia’s last Anglo-Saxon Crown, hidden in the ancient landscape, which surrounds the town. From the misty Fen Land, to the dark avenues of The Carrion Wood, Nigel will leave no stone unturned in his quest to find The Lost Crown.
Lucy is a 26-yerar-old psychology student, who lives in Saxton during breaks from university. It is in town that Lucy meets Nigel Danvers; the pair instantly get off on the wrong foot. Nigel’s playful, spooky, nature eventually wins Lucy over, and the two set out to solve crimes and mysteries using their very different methods. Nigel believes in ghosts and supernatural activity, whereas Lucy puts her faith in science, explanation and logic. Lucy’s instincts often help Nigel avoid danger, but she is hiding something from her newfound friend. Beneath her outward, jovial, existence Lucy feels damaged by an event in her past. Her adventures with Nigel will bring that secret to the surface, exposing Lucy to know far more than she has let on.
Pompous and arrogant, Professor Hardacre is an archaeologist of the ‘old school’ variety. He takes an instant dislike to poor Nigel, seeing the young adventurer as an immediate threat to his mission; to find the location of The Lost Crown and seek fortune, fame and glory. You see, Hardacre has been uncovering Saxton’s ancient secrets for many decades, so will not take kindly to the efforts of such a fresh faced upstart. Every May, Hardacre travels to the harbour town, to survey the area, and search for lost treasures. He believes the high spring tides, which eat away at the land, will expose long lost treasures. His methods are scientific and well practised, but he has yet to find the ultimate treasure. Well known, throughout Saxton, Hardacre can often be found propping up the bar in Saxton’s one and only Pub, The Bear, or making notes in the many corridors of the warren-like Saxton Museum. What lengths will Hardacre go to when protecting his work? Nigel is sure to find out, as he progresses through the adventure.
No-one knows the true age of Wesely Russet, with some stating “he’s as old as the fens”, so it comes as no surprise to find that Russet is a practitioner of ‘the old ways’; the ancient craft of the druids, wiccans and pagans. With his face obscured by a dirty handkerchief, Russet can appear a sinister figure, as he stalks the graveyards of Northfield and Ulcombe. According to local literature, The Russet’s are one of Anglia’s oldest families, with a family tree branching back to long before the Doomsday Book. Such information can be gleaned from the many books, journals and tomes found in The Saxton Museum. The surviving Russet clan know all there is to know about the land, and folk, around them. With such knowledge, and wisdom, Russet proves highly useful to Nigel; who seeks his guidance on more than one occasion. From the tales of old to Hedge Witch spells, Russet has plenty to offer the eager treasure hunter, but his assistance comes with a warning; “Those who go looking for the dead are asking for trouble”. Should Nigel heed this warning to the curious, or quest onwards in his search to find the last Anglo-Saxon Crown of Anglia? |
