Randy,
Good God what a relief it is to hear from an ardent supporter of
the adventure game. I am so GOD-DAMNED sick of games where the point
is no more than who can shoot who the most times. In other words,
brainless, twitch f@#$%ing garbage!!! Like I told you before, Just
Adventure was the first site I added to my favorites. I check your
site at least twice a week for interesting stuff and you guys (and
gals) never let me down. I literally cannot imagine a gaming landscape
where the only choices on the shelf were Unreal Tournament 197 and
Counter-Strike and all the other bullshit shooters.
I am in awe of the time and effort that goes into games that their
creators know full well won't likely sell well, and yet the creativity
and love that goes into them makes you wonder just how damned good
they'd be if more people would appreciate them. I let a friend borrow
several games, one of them Thief: Deadly Shadows (which, face it,
it's awesome that the game actually came to the XBOX in the first
place wherein it has a legacy on the PC and console gamers aren't
typically known for their patience with games like this), and he
said that it was "boring, too slow, not enough shooting and
blah blah blah" the same bullshit you're tired of hearing from
the Gamespots and IGNs and all the others. It BOGGLES my mind that
people want nothing more than to race or shoot things, anything that
doesn't engage your brain for more than seconds at a time. I CHERISH
games that make me think and engage me like that. Hell, I love just
reading reviews where one game's puzzles, etc. are compar ed to another.
I love the lineage and back-and-forth that goes on in that regard.
Like you, I'm tired of the garbage that goes on in the gaming community
nowaday, just like I'm tired of the recycling that goes on in the
music industry. I just heard a garbage dance song that sampled "Tainted
Love" by Soft Cell, itself a remake from a song from 1966! Hell,
today's stupid youth don't know the difference, let's rerelease it.
Yes, your site has made a difference, Randy. I consider JA my adventure
bible. You have your fans, and to hell with those that are willing
to let gaming go down the shitter.
Do you realize that virtually all games on the horizon for the PS3
are sequels?!! Some of them are the 7th and 8th (and more) in their
series!! I'd take Indigo Prophecy (although I DETESTED the Enter
the Matrix-style action sequences, they very nearly killed the game
for me) 1,000 times over versus 95% of the crap that comes out on
a weekly basis. I know the reason that the average independently-produced
adventure game doesn't see the light in the retail world, but it's
a damned shame considering how much insight those people have as
opposed to the yutzes at most big companies.
Anyway, sorry to ramble so long. I aspire to get a computer back
and soon so I can catch up on the games that mattered, the ones where
the love of adventure was easy to see. It's my favorite genre and
it's sad to see that it is the one that most feel is sounding it's
death knell simply because people don't want to think.
Sincerely, T.L.M.
